I guess that means 1) you have to put in seat time on a number of different models before deciding. 2) you should check out all specifications and measurements in advance so you are not disappointed to find inadequate capacity/size down the road, 3) Too big is as bad as too small. 4) Maintenance is critical for long term reliability. 5) you can always trade up if the first tractor doesn't meet all your needs but it is expensive to do so.

Oh, And this... was freakin' brilliant!!! LOL

You cannot really go wrong with any of the brands discussed frequently here on TBN. The key is to find the right specifications for your needs and then to investigate each manufacturer's version of the tractor type you need. Besides Mahindra, JD, Kubota, Kioti, MF, Branson, LS, NH (who did I leave out??) each make tractors in the "big CUT" category. Some make multiple models as you have found out. Check and compare tractor weight, size, PTO power, 3PT lift, FEL lift capacity, hydraulic output/min and you should be able to line up the comparable tractors. After that it comes down to dealer, price and ergonomics for you.

One other decision you'll need to consider is cab or no cab. Cabs are definitely nice when doing snow removal or if you live in a hot climate but they are also very vulnerable to tree limb damage ($$) and they add multiple thousands to the purchase price. If I lived in Texas I'd own a cab model. If I cleared snow routinely and it took more than twenty minutes to do it I'd own a cab. Otherwise it is IMO optional and has the downsides mentioned.

I'll bring up another point -
We are pretty much in a "dead" period, especially north of the Mason Dixon line, for tractor sales. Now is the time to line something up. As spring approaches people start buying these "small" tractors, used inventory decreases, prices rise.

Just a quick note for an update... I'm going to look at the Mahindra 5035 next weekend. I think it fits the plan pretty well. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

How about a Mahindra 5530 Utility Tractor? I think I know where to find one with just over 120 hours, and for less money than the Mahindra you are interested in :D

Pm sent...

It will do everything you need a tractor to do!

Enjoy the white stuff today!
