You do nice work James.

I bet your missus will allow you to come to our get together next weekend with her. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll show Glenda the pictures. I'll bet the ladies will be able to talk for hours on how long a project takes when we do it ourselves. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow. 9 coats of poly. That's extreme. I hope you put a few coats on the inside too to even out the moisture absorbption a little. Looks fine and the finish will probably last for a few hundred years.

Yes, it might be a little extreme but that's what it took to get that mirror like reflection I was looking for. My wife usually thinks I do everything a little extreme but she likes the results when its all is said and done. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My Dad is a painter and does a lot of finish work on homes. One home he was working on several years back, the owner had gone over that extreme point. The cabinets had so much clear finish (not sure if it was poly of some other type) that when an end cabinet was accidently hit by another contractor it cracked like broken glass. That was probably extreme, but they sure looked good.

Oh, and yes the inside got 3 coats everywhere possible. Thanks for looking Cliff.

James, it's obvious what you have been doing in your spare time. Very nice! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I just refinished a bar that had a style I liked, but hated the rustic dull finish. It's pine and the wood is very soft. I put three coats of poly on the front and sides, and 6 coats on the top. After 6 coats, I gave up on having a complete glassy finish. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I guess I was just three coats from success. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Maybe I will go back and finish the job at a later time. I kinda have a lot of projects getting finished right now because I'm gonna have quite a few hungry visitors this weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

( ............. I took 3 80lb sacks of quickcrete mixed thick and mounded up under where tub was going. Then tub was set in place in the wet concrete and pushed down until tub lip contacted the tile. This molded the concrete to the bottom of the tub. )

To late now, but for anyone doing this in the future, put a sheet of plastic between the tub and the cement. Makes it a lot easier to get the tub out at a later date if you need to remove it. The plastic sheeting will keep the cement from bonding to the tub bottom.
