Since it was 81 in Minnesota yesterday and the first time we have not had snow in March for the past 120 odd years I thought this was appropriate. I once owned a JD 185 and had a de-thatcher for it. I kept it after getting my BX2200. It is a well built unit and one can get extensions for it to increase its width. Since I have a 60" deck I added 2 extensions so now am approaching 56" (close enough to 60"). I used the hydraulic cylinder from my quick hitch snow blower to provide easy up and down. Since I don't have welding capability I built the rest of out angle iron, bar stock, rods, etc and only needed bolts to put things together. It works well with the grass catcher and it has been put to use in our fantastic spring. It now has a new color....

Nice job. I'm working on the same thing except I want to se the whole quick hitch setup so I dont need to take the cylinder off. So it will be just a little more fabricating. But its nice to have it out front then mow right behind it.

Yes, you do need the wheels. You want the de-thatcher to float. I have the cylinder located so that when fully extended the assembly is slack and the short link provides the flexibility and allows free movement up and down . Depth of de-thatching is set with the collars on the wheels (more agressive/less aggressive dig in).

Here is the information you were asking for. If you look at the detailed picture I posted earlier you will see where the assorted rods fit and the collars are placed. You may need to drill holes in the original JD mounting bracket for proper attachment. I don't remember any more. I built this in stages using the original JD attachment mechanism but that was too flimsy so went this route. If you have more detailed questions just PM me rather than continuing the thread.
