New Mahindra Max 26 XL owner, any good mods or aftermarket backhoes for it?

Do your self a favor and stick with the Mahindra backhoe.

Last year we had one in the shop with a Woods subframe mounted backhoe with a cracked final/axle housing.

After looking at how Woods mounts their subframe as to how Mahindra's is mounted, you would choose the Mahindra.

Mahindra's subframe ties into the center housings of the tractor, as to the Woods just on the final housings out by the tires.

The Max 3Pt. lower links are attached to Aluminum Case covers, The case itself is iron and the load is spread out, but a hoe attached here is a lot of stress.

Try splainin that to the Mahindra warranty department but I don't think it's gonna fly very far. LOL It's in very clear black and white print. Put an aftermarket hoe on it and you're pretty much on your own, period.

We got a Woodmaxx backhoe. Haven't received it yet but should in a few weeks. We will look into building or adapting a frame mount.

Please specify. I've had both (a Mahindra and a Kelley) and was satisfied with each.

Some even say the Mahindra backhoe has issues at the main pivot point for let to right. It apparently sometimes jams there?

Don't know about the hoe for the Max but my Mahindra hoe was made in the USA by Kansas Machine Works. So far I'm happy with it and I will not have any warranty issues. The only problem I did have was with the crappy install done by the distributor but that has all been taken care of under warranty and it didn't cost me one thin dime. If I have any hoe related failures for the next four or five years, it'll be on Mahindra's dime not mine.

There are bigger aftermarket backhoes and ones with more impressive specs, but the Mahindra backhoe is well balanced and the stress loads are spread out over the tractor. I like the Woods sub-frame mount backhoe also, I've not seen the same issues as Johnson Auto, but that is something to consider.

I think a backhoe with much more digging power than the factory Mahindra backhoe probably shouldn't be mounted on a Max26. Also we need to remember that the backhoe can only push down so hard and the tractor comes up rather than the bucket digging in. If a person needed a lot more capability in the backhoe department, he might want to consider a little bigger tractor, and that applies to any brand.

Don't suggest a 3pt backhoe. For starters, putting one on will void your warranty. You get what you pay for so get the backhoe made for the tractor as it includes a proper subframe and isn't as likely to damage your tractor.

I see a lot of talk about aftermarket or third party products voiding warranties but that isn't 100% true in the US. In order for your warranty to be voided the product you used would have to be the cause of the damage. If you add a 3pt backhoe and there is an unrelated problem then you have warranty coverage. That being said, don't use a 3pt backhoe. It will break your tractor and the damage will probably not be covered by warranty. If the manufacturer requires the use of a certain branded product to maintain your warranty then they must provide it to you for free.
