Nine years selling Mahindra's, this has to be a freak failure. I have seen broken diffs, striped couplers, and broken axles but not on brand new tractors. Those failures happen on abused, misused or aged tractors. I don't think mowing a field will qualify.

Madmax28, how does the Max 28 handle the 6 foot bushog? I was planning on getting a 5 foot but would like to know your thoughts on the 6 foot.
Thanks,
Sorry for the late reply, I have a 5 foot medium duty rotary cutter. I have a 6 foot finish mower that is bushhog brand. It handles it fine. It handles the 5 foot rotary cutter good too, but I wouldn't go any larger than that.

I mow my yard in high range 3 with the front end loader on and haven't had any trouble, but I only have one corner of the yard that I need 4 wheel drive while mowing. Sounds like you may have had a weak part to begin with. I don't take it easy on mine at all and haven't had one single issue. I dug up 2 sweetgum stumps with the loader and a boxblade and bowed one of the arms on the boxblade. Didn't hurt the tractor at all.

I certainly hope that it is a freak failure of the drive shaft but when I mentioned to the service guy that maybe it was a bad heat treat job of the shaft he said the shafts are not heat treated. I would think that they would at least be case hardened.

By the way this topic is on 2 different threads so for all viewing I am shutting down on this thread and moving to topic "4WD Issue. Thanks

Just spoke with the srevice Mgr. and he tells me that probably should have weight added to rear tires to equalize load on tractor so as not to stress front axle when in 4WD. He says especially going downhill puts a lot of undue stress on frt drive. In the same breath he says he has never seen this issue before. Am I the only guy that mows slopes for petes sake.

Again should have bought Orange I guess.

now I've heard on smaller tractors that certain angles and such will put a massive strain on the front end 4x4 units, which are generally accordingly smaller than rear drive. still, I wouldn't think that going down a hill mowing would really strain it that much, if anything the mower on the back would help alleviate some of the strain on the front end by loading the back end more. Filling the tires may be another good idea in that regard as well.

I just bought a off the show room floor Mahindra Max 28 XL Shuttle. Loader and Backhoe. It seems to do everything I need here at home ( mini farm ) but my Differential foot pedal is stuck in the down position and the DIF is IN all the time not good for scooting back and forth on the road to and from the barn. My dealer has never seen this and is clueless on it. If I don't hear back from Mahindra I will be mad. Being a retired military Tank/Tracks mechanic I will fix it myself not a problem BUT hey I only have 6 hours on this machine. So far the operation of the 28 max is great. Any info will help thanks.

Welcome to TBN! Sorry to hear about your problem. Seems like I was reading something not to long ago about that not being very good and can lead to other failures. I would suggest reposting your question in a new thread under Mahindra owning/operating. You'll probably get more responses that way. Good luck.

Was mowing my 4 acre field when I noticed it, went to make a turn on a hill and rear wheels started spinning. I've used the loader some to clear some briar's and tilled the garden and everything seemed ok. When the service guy picked up the tractor he made the comment that I probably should remove the FEL when mowing especially given some of the slopes on my property.

That hardly seems right to me. Should have went "Orange" I guess.

your shaft probably snapped because you probably keep the 4wd on all the time. You half to turn the darned thing off before you negotiate turns. Somethings got to give at some point and its gonna be that skinny shaft. Hope you learned from this and take better care of your machine
