Yanmar EA2400
Hello.

I live in Canberra, Australia. After perusing TBN for a long time, I have decided to buy a Yanmar scut with some implements for small landscaping jobs for myself and friends. Small tractor prices are a lot higher in Australia than in North America - around 50pc and even higher for implements.

Welcome aboard! As usual, if you feel like posting any pictures of your spread, Im sure we will appreciate looking at them. Is it shipping that jumps the prices so high?

Hi

Welcome, I'm from Central West, NSW. Have fun with the Yanmar and we look forward to seeing pics of your landscaping projects.

Why Australians tend to pay much higher prices for imported goods than Nth America is probably due to our much smaller market, distributors having secured sole rights to supply certain products, our high income levels by world standards, lack of local manufacture, cost of modifying imported products to meet Australian regulation requirements and so.

My spread is only slightly bigger than 1/2 acre - it's an undulating block in suburban Canberra. Tiny compared to the average spread owned by TBNers but very large compared to the standard 400 sq mtr blocks that our town planners deem appropriate for residential developments these days.

I'm expecting delivery of my Yanmar EA2400 with 4 in 1 FEL in about a week or so. Having an interest in tractors and earth moving equipment, and having the excuse of landscaping my block, I took the plunge of buying the tractor at the Henty field day. I have several tasks lined up for the tractor when it arrives, such as moving pavers, making a retaining wall using 600 or so keystone blocks (each weighing over 40 kilos), making concrete planter boxes, moving and levelling soil, mowing the weeds (and the future lawn). It's a retirement present to myself, and luckily endorsed by my wife.

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like you have a healthy hobby ready for when you retire! :) My Wife and i are trying to figure a way to finance a trip to Australia to visit a Cousin i haven't seen in many years. So far eating has come first so it may take a few years before we can save up the shekels needed for airfare.

Good luck and have fun.
