Tractor
john deere x495
Hi everyone,

have been lurking around for some time and finally registered as my search for a tractor is now over. I am living on appr. 3 acres right in the forest where the neanderthal remains were found. After playing around with the idea of buing a SCUT or CUT, i finally settled for a 2003 John Deere X495 with 1200 hours on it, as 90% of my work is mowing 2 acres. Unfortunately privately owned small tractors are quite rare here (unless classic oldtimers) and the price level overall is high compared to the US. Having a rear PTO and a capable 3 point hitch would have been great, but on the other hand i will be able to borrow a wood chipper and a log splitter from a friend/neighbor, so i guess i made the right decision. So far i am quite happy with the GT and mowing Performance is great.

I hope to find out more about handling and servicing my new toy and look forward to lurk a little more in this community.......

Welcome! I miss Germany. I spent 3 years at Spangdahlem Air Force Base when I was in the Air Force. I loved it there. Beautiful country.

Welcome!!

Use to live in Germany myself - albeit as a kid - for 10 years. Lived south of you in Zweibrücken and Kaiserslautern, and north of you in Bremerhaven. Loved it and always thinking of going back. Are you a native or just decided to stay?

Welcome!

I love Germany! Had the opportunity to spend 6 weeks there when I was 16 visiting a friend who's dad was stationed in Heidelberg. The trip of a lifetime, of which I will always remember. We never made it up your way. Our travels took us south towards Switzerland and then over towards Austria.

Willkommen!

G'day & welcome from Australia. I'm sure that your 'lurking' days are over... Hop on in with both feet and contribute, we've all got different experiences to share.

THX all for the warm welcome. And yes, I am a native german "**** neanderthalensis" so to say ;-) But as I lived in California for a while when I was 17 and my fiancé has a dual citizenship as she was born in the US, I have quite strong bonds to the US. We are even thinking of moving there when we get older....depending on how our career is going and how much money will be left when we retire ;-) Best case (if we win the lottery) would be to have a house in Germany and the states, linving in both worlds ;-)

Welcome, from Southern Oregon (aka State of Jefferson!). Make yourself at home here.

Nice pics! Everyone likes to see photos.

I spent some time in your area (Gelsenkirchen) on an student exchange when I was young. It appears you found a small slice of beautiful land. I remember that Ruhr Gebiet as being quite industrial. (We go more to Switzerland because my dad is Swiss and I'm a dual citizen.)

although the Ruhrgebiet has changed a lot, western Germany with the Ruhrgebiet is the most densly populated area in Germany and still one of the largest industrial areas in the world. But there are nevertheless some quite nice small rural "Islands" in between. I for example live in a forest with almost 3 Acres and it only takes a 15 Minute drive to Duesseldorf, which is one of the nicest cities in Germany (.....well as i was Born here, i think so ;-).
