Thanks for the responses! I've done the math & had a few ppl say the same about the price to add/buy a BH vs. outsourcing for the projects I've got in mind. After weighing it out, I'm probably going to need a decent BH easily accessible just due to time constraints since I can only work on things nights & weekends with my M-F work. There is a guy down the street from me that somewhat "offered" the assistance of his BH if I ever need.. Plans are to redirect a creek in the middle of our 30AC (that are currently heavily wooded) and dig about a 1-2 acre pond around 10ft deep mainly for irrigation. The property is sloped to center where the creek runs through so I can do the dirt-work & dam fairly easily if I work with the depth of the slopes and terrain that is already there (I'm surgical with a BH!). Have to get a good bit of the brush cleared out first before I'll really be able to see what I have to work with. Will get it figured out one step at a time! Have a good weekend!

Welcome to the forum! You will get some great advice here! You might want to add your location in your profile. There are a lot of folks here from Texas... one might be your neighbor! Have fun exploring all the threads.

Thanks for the tip! Didn't even realize my profile was still almost 100% blank! Located in East TX (DFW Metro area) - Kaufman County.

Always a trade off with getting less machine than you want. Make a list of your BH needs before making the investment. I have a guy 4 miles from me that I use for the occasional BH work I need done. Not even worth renting a machine in my situation. Closest place to rent is 25 miles away and by the time I drive over, unload, hack around trying to operate a new machine, load it back up, and drive it back....I can pay the local guy $500 and he will do a few hours what would take me two days. Plus I do not need to store or mount and demount it.

BTW, I talked to him about getting a BH when I started looking for a machine. He walked me through it and convinced me to invest in a bigger machine instead of "wasting" the money on an attachment I would rarely use. YMMV. It depends on how much BH you need. You state "overwhelming need", so what changed from when you purchased your tractor? Ongoing needs or a few intensive projects?

I just saw that someone makes a new machine very similar to the "Dig-It" tow-behind units (new one is a small outfit in WV selling something they call the Gofor Digger??) that caught my eye. I can't post links yet, but will post one in correct thread once the throttle me up!
