First, the formula for calculating mowing time (acres/hour) is
[mower width (ft.) x ground speed (MPH)/8.25] x field efficiency factor.
The field efficiency factor allows for the fact that you would not be mowing uncut grass 100% of the time due to overlap, turning, bathroom breaks, etc. A field efficiency factor of 80% would be in the ballpark for mowing.
So, with a 6' cutter and a 4 MPH ground speed, you would be able to mow 2.3 acres /hour.
How much do you need in the way of average ag. income per acre to maintain ag. use assessment in VA?
