Hello all,
My name is Rusty Hughes and I am a new member to your wonderful, informative site. I've been lurking since mid-February and I have read so much my brain is all confused most of the time. But with time and patience and hard work I know I've learned a lot already. I have attached a pic of my tractor which I bought for $2500 and that included a NH dirt scoop. It's probably a VN rebuild but I don't care about that right now. It fit my budget and I've got the resources to fix anything that needs it.
I have already managed to crack the front axle driving into a hole but that was repaired by a friend of mine. The tractor came with rice tires but a local tractor shop had a set of 9.5-24 turfs that he sold me for $75 apiece. The turfs came off of a brand new tractor that the owner brought back and demanded bar tires. I'm estatic over the turfs.
Back in May after I had tilled 3 acres of land I noticed that both rear axles seals started leaking hydraulic fluid. The leaks started at the same time and they leaked the same amount. After some investigation I believe the fluid in my tractor is not the correct fluid. So today I drained it and am planning to add a JD 303 equivalent (Shell Rotella) tomorrow. However, I am having a problem with the gasket on the strainer. The gasket was like a cardboard material and it split in two when I removed the strainer. Do I need to replace the gasket and what type of material should this gasket be? I'll order one from Hoye in the future when I change the fluid (I got an owner's manual from them , THANK YOU!) but I do need to get something tomorrow for this gasket.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help a newbie.
