I have read many great articles here and am planning a log lift for my homemade splitter. My questions are 1.I have the typical northern log splitter vavle with auto return and 16 gpm pump.Do i need a power beyond valve to replace this valve to utilize the lift or can i use another one of the same in series?2.Also not related to the lift but when i built this splitter this site was unknown to me,so i installed a suction filter cartriage on the pump inlet. Now i know that needs to be removed and install correct filter on the return side, but when my splitter is first ran for about 20 mins. it is slow going.I tried hyd. oil, trans oil, still the same and doesnt matter if winter or spring?my tank is roughly 5 gallons.when it warms up it runs fine.,thanks in advance

If I was doing what your thinking of , or what I understand you want,

get a valve to power the lift and put a power beyond port in it and then go from that into the splitter valve, that way you will not need to modify the splitter valve, or find a valve thats has two circuits and one side that is detented and self releasing and the other standard, for the lift,

it may or may not work using the return for power, but the valve body most likely are not designed to hold the pressure of the incoming Hydraulics and the power beyond port the flow out with entering the valve body, only the return from the vale it self is in the body of the valve,

(but before I knew about power beyond, and that, I did run a second valve off the return and did not have any ill effects, but it was only about 1000 psi system),

my system is not as complicated, but I normally do not have a lot of large ends to split, so I bought a harbor freight and salvage Pickup Truck Crane W/ Cable Winch pick up lift and mounted on the log splitter, and bought a Norther tool log skidder tongs, Northern Industrial Steel Skidding Tongs 23in. Jaw Width | Logging Accessories | Northern Tool + Equipment I have one of the hoists on the small pickup and it worked to load them figured it would work to split them,
