What is causing your steering box failures, do you have a FEL, and are your front wheels reversed?

hiya..yes i have a loader, but not oversized or used over it`s capacity...all mechanicals arein very good condition and wheels/tires are all good and fairly well aligned..i inspect my stuff before and after every use...it just seems to be a lube issue with that cheesy bearing yanmar uses in thebox...fredericks started packing the boxes with grease b/4 i asked them to do so cause they saw several of the same failures...no problems now...been a great tractor for the past seven years..all you need is maintainence and non abuse...thanx for the reply...

Let me see if I have this right, ist steering box failed after 30 years, second failed in 3 years from lack of lube, under weight of FEL, and you are on your third? Are your front wheels reversed?

I think he is referring to the bearings failing in the steering box. I have the same problem. Have replaced mine also from water damage. If the tractor is outside a lot, the gear box will fill up with water that probably gets down through the steering column and condensation. About every two years I have to open up the steering gear box and remove the water or the lower bearing ring cup rusts up and comes apart. It's a design problem and a real pain to replace the bearings.

Sounds like a user/operator problem to me. My YM2000B has never spent a night outdoors nor felt a drop of rain, unless my ars was in the seat, headed for the barn, in the 10+ years that I have had it. Never had a steering box problem.

thanx for the feedback,gents...Gary was correct in his thought onbearings...they seem to be mickey mouse for an AG/Indust. application...tractor was kept outside but covered and dry...not an operator problem as I ran all types or 18 wheelers for over 30 years, bobcats, ind. forklifts, andsmall and medium payloaders..was also a salt water marine mech. way long ago...anyhoo,thanx again for the feedback
