As a point of clarification, in no way does my education or training have anything to do with gun violence, or legislation (I'm an engineer).
Either way. ''Gun violence'' doesn't exist
inanimate objects aren't capable of committing violence, or anything else. How difficult is that for your type to understand
Your education lack of education is showing 😂 Your ignorance is shinning brightly though 😂

Anecdotal evidence and personal observations can be misleading. Look at the data. The rate of gun violence in California is the 8th lowest in the Nation.
Rsr
Do you know how the data is collected and referenced?
Example: is 10 people are shot in one incident does that count as one or 10 crimes?

A couple years there was approx 80 people shot in Chicago on one week end. I don’t think it made national news. A few days later there was a mass shooting in Texas if memory serves me correctly was less than 10 people. Be curious how those respective incidents were reported.

I live to close to Rockford & Chicago and yes there is crime problem but it is not being committed by people that legally own firearms.

Agree way to many school shootings and I do not have an answer for that.

It is written pretty clearly and ruled on by the supreme court:

Mmm, yeah ... no.

Neither of the encircled blocks of text in the image you posted appears anywhere in the majority opinion, written by Justice Davis (joined by Justices Clifford, Field, Grier, and Nelson)

Nor does it appear with the separate concurring opinion written by Chief Justice Chase (joined by Justices Wayne, Swayne, and Miller)

Full text of Ex Parts Milligan, 71 U.S. 2 (1866):

Ex parte Milligan, 71 U.S. 2 (1866)

(The case deals with whether a civilian could be tried by a military commission)

The image of the text you posted has appeared on a number of websites in the wingnut-o-sphere however - purporting to be an opinion rendered by the Supreme Court (which it is not) - most recently in regards to the Covid issue:

Does an 1866 Court Case Bar States from Enforcing Social-Distancing Regulations?

it's not that I think what this mayor is doing is right, ..., but at least she is trying. I appreciate that.
Many things "could be tried" that would blow a giant hole through the constitution.

Would you support temporary suspension of civil liberties to allow reimposition of slavery? For a short term until the worker crisis and labor shortage eases? Done in the name of being the greater good for all of society? Putting more and better food on the table nationwide? And maybe the slaves could be tasked in some ways to help with the homeless problem? Saving lives in upcoming freezing weather?

If you oppose that, here is my question. How does suspending that constitutional right differ from your support to suspend a different constitutional right?

How are raw numbers skewed? Can you identify how they have been skewed, or is it just your opinion (that is skewed)?

You'd be wrong on that second point too. I do not belong to a Union.

As a point of clarification, in no way does my education or training have anything to do with gun violence, or legislation (I'm an engineer). My comment about being a professor was simply to provide context of something that crosses my mind, as campus shootings are becoming more and more commonplace.
Ooh, let me...

The gun violence numbers in your study include any and all injury by firearm whether it is self-inflicted, accidental, police enforcement or self defense. You see, to the people gathering the data, it is not an academic exercise, it is a crusade.

Another fundamental problem is that it only reflects "gun" crime. Part of the point of gun ownership is to deter or stop incidents of crime. Ergo, if a guy comes at me with a club and I shoot him in self defense, the "study" would show my action as gun violence, but ignore the violent crime that spurred it because a gun wasn't used. Go back and look at data on all crime in those same states.

Sometimes it is better to do nothing than to do the wrong thing. Places that have been lax on crime and tough on gun ownership have very obvious problems with violent crime.

At the end of the day, your study is skewed deliberately to illicit an emotional response from the average person who cannot read beyond the headline.

One point being missed is that this restriction ONLY applies to Albuquerque and surrounding county. Per the law you are legal to carry until you cross the county line? This begs the question where do you stash your weapon when passing through the county or city? Why are only guns in Albuquerque dangerous to carry?
Back to the original problem is it the gun or the person that is problem.

I lay odds that the vast majority of the legal gun owners in NM have not been shooting at random people and I would bet that the majority of land owners in the state (outside Albuquerque) are gun owners.

Post shut down in 3 ... 2 ... 1

I'll kick it off.

I applaud the move. Is it a good move? Who knows. Is it something, yes! To me, that's a step in the right direction.

I don't know what the answer is to gun violence in the US, but I fully acknowledge we have a problem and need to do something about it.

I get tired of politicians who use every excuse to kick the can down the road and not act. At least this is something. At this point, I applaud anything that at least tries to change the status quo, which in my mind, is unacceptable.

As a University professor, this is an issue that is always at the forefront of my mind with the rise in campus shootings. The Professor that was just shot at UNC was a colleague of mine prior to moving to UNC about 4 years ago...
So carry a concealed weapon to protect yourself and your students.

crime on crime amounts to the lions share of "gun violence" If suicide is removed)

Criminals are not inclined to follow laws,

This to me is like the 15 days to flatten the curve! Lets do an over reach experiment and see how many people comply. Then lets see how long we can get away with it. Years!!
In conversations with the people that drank that Kool-Aid, they have said they aren't going comply and will not drink the Kool-Aid the next time around.
