part numbers?thatwould depend how much torque you want, do what i told you.first find out what motors you have.do they have a case drain? let me know then we can go from there....jim

As far as I can tell, no they do not have a case drain. I think they are White motors. They're on a 2000-model PT-425 with a Kohler...

Are you playing "I've got a secret?"

Why can't you simply tell us what size/model numbers you put on yours? Is that too much to ask?

all.....char-lynn have a case drain, if the pressure is over 1500 lb.on the wheel motors.check the eaton web site.
the only major thing that changes on wheel motor series is the center section and the end plate, and 2 hole or 4 hole mount
if you have the square back wheel motor from power trac you will have to add a case drain hoses and a manafold.the S series charr-lynn will still work.....jim

KentT,i don't want to tell you what to use on your tractor, if your not happy with it would be my fault.so if find the tag on your wheel motor call morgantown machine&hydraulics they have parker and char-lynn and a few more.in pa. 724-463-4435........jim

OK, now that you have installed better, more powerful wheel motors, what is the difference. I suspect that you lost some rpm's in the change over since more cubic-in are involved. Do you notice any more torque? Did the new motors have built in brakes? You probably had to adapt some fittings. If the change is to your expectation, great. If it does not gain anything, don't be ashamed to tell us, so someone else will not not make any mistakes.

yes i have an increase of 50% in torque, yes i lost a little top end for awhile.increased the rpm about 400.i don't think i needed it,most of the time it never runs wide open.i didn't get the brakes.i was changing this over when it was less than 10 degrees and i just wanted more power and i have! did some dug some orignal ground with the light mat.bucket and it never went it to the dirt like that, just roll it back and it was full. with the wheel motors and the cost of the tractor it was still less than the old 425 cost.....jim

Did you mean to say [decrease] the max rpms on the new wheel motors, because that is normally what happens when you increase the cu in . High speed is only for transport anyway. One can not work efficiently at high speed. What do you plan to do with the old wheel motors, or were they bad or leaking?

ok,the old 422 and 425 had danfoss wheel motors(check the tag,or washer)replaced them with char-lynn.do a search for eaton wheel motors find the "s"series, these are a better motor and have a good load rating..........i'm making this to easy jim

Do you realize that when you go to a larger wheel motor, the max pressure will decrease. You may have to reset the relief valves for the new pressure rating. Those S-series motors are the 103-xxxx. and they run about $294.00 each. We still don't know the cu in motor you had, and what the new motors cu in . are.

J.J.,they are 18.2 ci. yes i said they lost a little top end,and i raised the rpm. of the engine but i didn't to it was fast enough for me. they are 340 each with the case drain.........jim

I looked at the Eaton web site and it looks like they have "no case drain" as an option. My motors do not have case drains and it will not be real easy to add the lines. Does anyone know the purpose of the case drains? Are there advantages to them?

My best guess would be is that some manufactures, build their motors with a certain tolerance, and therefore no fluid leaks by the internal components, whereas, other manufactures, build their motors with a little less tolerance, and any fluid that slips by the internal components, goes into the case, and then out to the reservoir. If you can find a suitable hydraulic motor for an upgrade, go for it. My system has case drains, but if I wanted to go with a motor without a case drain, I would just plug or cap the fittings that were used for the case drains. In you situation, you would have to add some hoses and fittings, and route the fluid back to tank, or through the cooler, which goes back to tank. The following is from a hydraulic manual.

Motor case drain lines should be returned to the reservoir through dedicated penetrations. These penetrations must be higher than the unit's case port and be connected to a drop-pipe inside the reservoir that extends below minimum fluid level. For the reasons outlined above, filters are not recommended on case drain lines. While this does allow a small percentage of fluid to return to the reservoir unfiltered, in most applications the contamination risk is low and can be effectively managed using oil analysis and other condition-based maintenance practices.
