Tractor
2009 L5240HST
I have a 2011 L3240HST with a LA514 Loader and 1 rear valve that I'm looking to sell or trade. It has turf tires and around 94 hours. This tractor is like new and always kept under roof. I bought it when it had 62 hours. I'm looking at a couple of options for a L4240HST with a LA854 loader. I have an opportunity to get a 2009 with around 75 hours and no loader and then add a brand new loader and I will have about $22,500-23000 in the tractor. Or I can get a brand new L4240HST with loader for around $26,500. Both tractors have R4 tires. I will not be financing, just paying cash. Do you think its worth paying an extra $4000 or so for a new one over a 09 with new loader? The 09 is a -1 and of course the 12 is a -3 and I think I read somewhere that the only differences are swivel seat and push button pto. I don't put a lot of hours on a tractor. I just sold my B3030 that was 8 years old and it only had around 500hrs on it and 75% of the hours were cutting grass. I have a ZD I use for cutting grass now.

With the few hours per year you are using the tractor you will never wear out either one. I would go used and save the $4000.

I would also go used and save the 4K.

I've had 3 Kubotas and a couple others and never bought brand new. I like to save cash! :)

Same as oldnslo and Bluegill2, I have the -3 and while I like the swivel seat, I prefer the lever PTO and $4000 is a lot of money.

Can you all think of anything else that would be different from a 09 to 12 other than the seat and lever pto.

I've been looking at the new L4600 and like everything except the electric PTO switch. Probably not an issue, but I like manual...

There is an old thread on this in the Kubota forums and I seem to remember a slight difference in one of the HST+ features, but at my age if I think about something long enough, I can "remember" anything whether it happened or not. I do remember overall the differences would not of swayed me one way or the other. I just bought a new L5740 HSTC and would have jumped all over a used -1 if I could have found one.

I guess I am old school or something; just always like the lever. Our John Deere has the button and while it has been dependable but never warmed to it.

BTW, I have a good friend who bought a used L4240 a couple years ago and he loves it!

I will be the one fly in the pudding. I would choose new for that little of a price difference unless I knew the history of the used tractor, if I was getting a ready good deal, that would weight on my decision but I like to break in my own equipment and I like knowing I perform the maintance as required. That being said, people like me sell stuff from time to time and whoever buys it get a really good piece of equipment. 75 hours on the used tractor is hardly broke in yet, but I would buy new and not have to worry about getting a loader put on correctly.

Just my 1.5 cents.
