You sire, "hit the nail on the head".

Heck, someone somehwere was calling this our Tsunami (sp?).

What the heck, New Orleans (sp?) had plenty of time to prepare for this "disaster".

Actually, they did an awesome job getting the city evacuated, some people simply chose not to go............
Some probably had an agenda for the aftermath (Looting, etc)

It's a total mess now tho, and it probably will never be the same. As to rebuilding it on higher ground, I think that's probably a good idea, if there's anywhere to do it that's not already owned - remember the eminent domain conversations we've been having?

Just saw film on New Orleans on CNN. My own countrypeople digging thru garbage cans for food. That is totally unacceptable!! What kind of evac plans did this city and state actually have? I can see, after a little thought, people looting for food and water and even clothing. But certainly not the nonessentials.
This has become a disaster that the whole nation is going to be feeling for a long time. The cost of fuel was bad enough before this, but now it's unbelievable.
The cost of building materials is going to skyrocket also. Will the pricegougers and other criminals be dealt with? And that may also include major corporations as well.
I cannot remember a worse week in our history as a country. 9/11 was bad enough, and now this.

Just some thoughts I'm having.

From what I can find out, the plans were good, but the people refused to leave (and in all fairness, some were sick or otherwise could not leave). But prior to the storm hitting, there were all sorts of notifications to get A) OUT OF TOWN or B) TO THE SUPERDOME.

For whatever help it might do, I sent out a message to a bunch of my business buddies around the nation to buy some mobile homes or even some camping trailers and haul them down to New Orleans. I figure people need places to live more than anything else. There are places that have jobs, but the people who can work have nowhere to live. I'm not sure if we will pull if off, or even if we would be allowed to haul them down there, but we are going to try. But not to New Orleans. That place needs infrastructure repair. But some of the surrounding towns have water and sewer and some homes, we'd probably take the campers/trailers to somewhere that could handle them and slowly the infrastructure can be rebuilt and people can move back to the worst areas.

Bob; Most of us probably didn't pay a lot of attention to the warnings due to not being affected, and "Oh well, another hurricane", what else is new? Wonder how many TBN members are or have been directly affected by this. Kind of leaves a feeling of uncertainty I've never experienced before. Almost a feeling of forboding, if that's the right term.

Natural disasters are very humbling things to us mortals. Being in Indiana I see tornadoes all the time, but have never seen anything other than isolated desctruction where a few houses are torn up and a few are left untouched. Nothing I know of can compare to wiping out entire cities, and we have to realize we are talking about New Orleans to Biloxi and all the cities in between. In some areas the destruction is 100% of the structures.

But what I am even more curious about are all the little towns that are spread out among the swamps and low lands that didn't appear on the maps and now are completly gone.

It is reasonable to assume that the death toll will never be known.

The funny part of all this ( i don't mean funny funny) is that for years they were expecting this, they knew it was just a matter of time. a city ring on the coast BELOW sea level, was disaster wainting to happen. they should not rebuild there (IMHO) i liken it to the forlks that build houses on stilts on the hillls of califronia, then a mud side wipes them out and then they rebuild there. I know that is not going to be a popular statment but that is how i see it.

AIN'T going to happen!!!!! as usual will be on our own.. i rememBer us Being chastised by the UN for not responding quickly enough with enough $$$ after the disaster of 12/31/04 ODD I don't recall reading anything in the paper about countries sending us any help whether it be $$$ or manpower. As far as looters and other such degenerates, i agree, LOCK, LOAD, FIRE. PROBABLY ANOTHER NON POPULAR STATEMENT.

Got to say, I find that statement rather offensive. There are Canadians already on the ground in the zone. The Canadian Red Cross chapter is fully mobilized to assist it's US counterparts. Every city in Canada is taking $$, and any donations of materials they can for relief. Those will all be bundled and sent as quickly as possible. Prime Minister Martin has spoken to Pres. Bush and offered any and all help we can. The same special military units we sent to the tsunami relief are standing by waiting for the OK to enter the US.

And any newspaper I read makes it very clear that LOTS of other countries are doing the same.

Frank, I don't know what countries are offering help, but the first I saw personally on Fox News was Germany. I think they've mentioned several since then.
