How are you still finding these limited run models?

Do any of you know what rear transaxle is in this, is it a heavier built unit than my Hydro-Gear G730?

While I am shopping a SCUT, I also want to get a new GT for around the house for my wife and son to be able to happily (yea, right....) help.

My main yard portion is 15-17 degrees, about 3 acres, and I have 3 long banked areas that are 32 degrees. My current Craftsman has been a trooper for 550 hours, but I am thinking that I might wish to dump it before the hydro dies (they always do on my property) and reclaim some money to go towards the newer unit. This Husqvarna may be the heavy duty beast to have if it is built with the near "unobtainium" level engine/transaxle parts.

I got my GT48DXLS for half off from a local Husqvarna warehouse. Apparently their was a recall on how this model was packaged during shipping. It caused the plastic grass discharge to rub on the deck which wore off the paint. They said they were selling these to dealers for a big discount and they would buy some touch up paint and resell.

Shoot, tell me how to get one half off and I'll drive up/over to New York and grab it. This tractor should be able to last at least 5 years on my property, half off.... 5 years service or more.... I'm in.

Mine has the paint rubbed off just like that. I wish I would have got a big discount too. Now I just have to find some orange paint.

I cannot tell you whether or not the K66 transaxle is better or worse than the Hydro-Gear. My GTH26V52LS has the Hydro-Gear. Regardless of which transaxle it has, I have doubts that it will handle a 32 degree bank for very long. I'm cutting a 25 degree bank with my 26hp GTH w/Kawasaki engine, and I'm here to tell you - it grunts. It has never failed to pull the entire bank (60' x 300' long), but then, I only have 130 hours on it so far. Your mower may do much better...

Any updates for longer term ownership or for this Spring on the GT48DXLS? I found one of these (new) thanks to this site. I am thinking of buying, for all the reasons that have been listed by others. The only other unit that will meet my needs is the Deere X570 at twice the price. I don't want to mow with a SCUT / CUT because of trees and hills, and I will have to buy one of those, but not right now. Now, I just need to mow, and the cheaper option is highly desirable.

I read everything I could find on the GT48DXLS. There were some complaints (another site? earlier year model?) such as the deck clogging and not going high enough, so getting hung up. Also, it appears to me that the anti-scalp wheels seem to be too high to do anything at all. (I know they are adjustable, but the mounting boss does not seem to offer low enough adjustment.) There were also some quality complaints.

I have a similar situation as the OP - field and lawn mowing, some rough terrain, hills, and uneven terrain. Tall grass and wet mowing will occasionally be necessary.

This is an old thread, but hopefully someone will see this. I will create a new thread too.

How did you go about finding one of these left over and new?

The new TS348D appears to be the updated version of the GT48DXLS. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/husqvarna/394125-gt48dxls-vs-ts348d.html

We're well into our second mowing season with our GT48DXLS. It continues to impress us. We installed a mulching plug because the side discharge was throwing clippings across the street, and installed Oregon G5 blades at the same time. Even with the plug, we have had no clogging. The wife managed to knock the deck off the front hangar once, but I was able to reassemble it in the field. We have steep hills with lots of granite outcroppings and a few hidden stumps. The deck has taken some hard hits, and has maintained it's shape and structural integrity, requiring no repairs.

If it were stolen today, I'd be calling my dealer and getting another ASAP.

Teachu2: How many hours do you have now? (approx. ok)

Also, how are the anti-scalp wheels working? They don't seem like they would adjust low enough to be functional. I have lots of tree mounds (oaks) that I need to mow onto / around, which will catch the edge of the deck if they don't work.

The better designed deck wheels were one of the advantages of the Deere X570, that has me questioning whether the GT48DXLS will work for me. I have what sounds like very similar mowing terrain / usage as you do.

I plan to remove the discharge chute and use the mulch kit.
