I just purchased a BX23. Didn't really need a tractor but really wanted one. So far no problems and have 20 hours on it. I do have a question however. I have forgotten to release the parking brake when moving the tractor several times. Does this damage anything? Seems to move fine which is why I did not realize that it was on.

I don't know the specifics of your tractor but I think logic dictates that if you can drive without even knowing the parking brake is on, then it isn't operating as it should. Certainly with my L3130 if I try to drive off with the brake on, I know something's up from the labouring engine and the other sounds of distress. I'd at least have your parking brake checked for adjustment so if it is on, you know it.

It is common for the BX22/23 to be driven off with the E/brake on. I have done it several times myself. The E/brake is almost useless on these machines. You need to press as hard as you can on the pedal before setting it or it won't hold very well. Unfortunately, this is normal for the little BX and as far as I know can not be improved by any adjustments. Driving with it on for a short period of time won't hurt anything-- but don't make a habit of it.

I concur with jeffmaz on the brake. I almost never use mine unless I have to stop on a slope for some reason. There is little reason to use it for normal parking or stopping specially true if you follow the safty precaution of lowering all implements to the ground before shut down.

Like many others, I rarely find a need to set the brake. Please try this from now on and you should not have future problems forgetting. When you apply the parking break, make sure it is set firm every time. When it is, the engine will let you know if you try to move without releasing the break. Never set it lightly because the engine is powerful enough to drag it along.
