Well, they only got in a half day today. The rain could have waited for a week or so, but we need it. At this point {about 1/2 way} it is 10' from bottom to spillway and the dam is another 2 1/2' - 3' above that.

Just wanted to touch on something that has always bothered me about pond building... Make sure you design you pond so you can cut easily around it.... I wished we had thought of that before we did ours...

Question for you experts: I'm considering digging my own pond. Something like 120 feet x 75 feet x whatever depth I can get. If I rent equipment, what is best for pond digging? I'm guessing a dozer. What about a big excavator or a backhoe?

David-If he could slope the outside of the dam like he did the inside, looks like it would greatly simplify mowing.

It would take a pile of dirt to slope the dam.

Hi,

Just a couple thoughts...

Make sure the dozer takes time to compact the soil on the "dam" side...very important.

Also, a neighbor told me to keep the level of my pond up close to the top of the elevated side so that rodents can't burrow in and make dens...dens today, leaks tomorrow!

Following this advice had worked well for me. I don't have a large pond...about 80 x 60, but is does not leak!
