New Pressure Treated Wood?

I believe .60 is the correct retention for direct burial

A lot of ideas being thrown around on this thread, but I would like to inform the 'group' that stainless is the ONLY way to go with this new treatment.

Also, the CCA did not have a leaching problem, as the chemicals were chemically bound and locked in. But the idea that there was ARSENIC in the formula put the kabosh on the treatment (similar to other hypes such as PENTA treated wood). We are shooting ourselves in the foot on this one as well, but the reality is - CCA is gone and we have a poor replacement.

The metal manufactur that I use is fabral. In their new instalatin guide it reads: If the metal roofing, or siding will come in direct contact with treated lumber--as it will with your bottom band boards ---you need to install a barrier. That barier can be plastic or builders felt. Personally I use builders felt. Galvinized screws or nails wont last in the new treatment. Use stainless. Glenn

Beenthere,

The corrosion issue with the new treatment scares the heck out
of me. How many houses do you think will be built without
stainless steel anchor bolts that connect to the bottom plates in
the framing?

yea the corrosion thing is scary, like i am not sure but i dont think you can get nailgun nails that are hot dipped, so probably alot of contractors will cheat and use electroplated nails, or when using pressure treated sill plates how many are gona switch and use hot dipped, not many most will just use non galv nails like they do now, i think in a few years we will be seeing alot of decks collapsing and stuff from the fasteners rusting away. but time will tell

Rch; I read that same article as soon as my new issue arrived, it's quite interesting but more info would be nice too.
The day after I read it, I ordered a load of treated from my local Lowes, and got to talking to the guy at the contractors counter. He had never heard of the corrosion problem. He's a pretty nice guy, so I burned him a copy.
Come to find out, they've been selling this new stuff since last summer. Sure hope the deck I put up last fall and the sill plate I put on my new house don't rot out the fasteners until I'm gone. From what I understand this stuff wasn't supposed to be on the shelves untill January of this year. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

i do post (pole ) structures for a living . And we're just starting to see the new material . Fasteners aren't a concern ,as we use Hot dipped or stainless as a matter of preference . What does concern me ,is how this material will react to steel siding and trim . My concern deals with how the siding and base trim will react to this material when it's used as the base board . I haven't seen it addressed on any of the sites I visit . Any ideas ??? John

iI always use hotdipped also, but the joist hangers I was using were not the heavier coated G-185's they are recommending now, they were just the normal galvanized like we use on nontreated lumber. By the base trim, are you refering to the starter strip?
