About an hour later you will be a master. Not much to them. Try one of the monster Deers that we use to do 1000 acre wheatfields with all the computers and such.... Farmers need an IT Degree to drive them around anymore.

I remember my beginning times on my new pt......within the first 10 minutes I had almost taken out half the rear deck off the house......lmao.......don't worry you'll get use to it quickly......enjoy yourself and stay buckled up and always keep both feet on the treadle......Jack

Congrats on the new machine!

As others have mentioned, the AUX PTO is for the quick attach and for things like grapple jaws, power angle snow blade, mini-hoe bucket curl and dump, etc...

You pick up the attachment, close the quick attach with the knee lever, set the parking brake, get off and move the hoses from the quick attach to the mini-hoe, snow plow, grapple, etc...

Then you get back on, take off the parking brake and off you go. Do your work, then repeat in reverse order to remove the attachment.

In all seriousness, you can change a non powered implement without getting off the seat in about 15 seconds. If it requires the changeover of the quick attach hoses, or if it requires the connection to the main PTO, add another 15-20 seconds. So half-minute implement changes are to be expected and if you've ever used a 3pt hitch attachment.... you'll kick yourself for not getting a PT sooner.

I will second the #1 tip: Keep one foot on each forward and reverse pedal at all times.

You will love planting trees. I put in eight the other weekend, and it took longer to lay out the drip irrigation than it did to plant the trees.

I use chains rather than straps, but in any case, you do want to keep things from rubbing or chafing.

Just drive it around. Practice picking up something unbreakable, moving it, and putting it back. You will get really good very quickly.

All the best,

Peter

Always turn off the engine prior to connecting and disconnecting hoses.

That is probably prudent (because it can be unsafe if you accidently hit the treadle while getting back in).... but I never do that. And never have a problem.

right...I never do that either......haha.....I also never hit my head on the rollover canopy because I forget to duck......lol.......one other thing I learned very quickly was to always exit the tractor on my left side.......and this is peculiar to the tall boys......because the exhaust pipe runs right under the step on the right side which then also heats up......and will melt the soles off your shoe when stepped on.......there's nothing like the smell of burnt shoe to remind you of your mistake........how come none of this stuff is in the instruction manuals?.........lol........Jack

I am concerned with releasing high pressure oil when connecting and disconnecting the hoses.

Where are the best positions for the choke and trottle when first starting it each day? I was putting trottle half way and choke all the way down and it didn't seem to be working out so well for quick starts.
