Did you switch the A and B work ports or the IN and OUT ports?

What does the specs say on the valve about the return port pressure?

Since that is a one spool valve, and on the bottom of the valve, there are two shiny caps.

The large one is for the spring center part of the spool, and I believe the small one covers the relief valve. It is also adjacent to the IN port.

JJ, unfortunatly the spec's in the operators manual for the valve are the same you see on the NT website. So no help there at all.

Oh and another question, what temp should the hose fittings be at the splitter valve when working it? I have not put the IR thermometer on it yet, but I am guessing about 140-150 degrees. Since it's hard to reach hydro couplings from the operator's seat I never noticed if they all heat up that much or not.

ljohnson, I trust everything JJ says and I will run it the right way, I am just trying to learn more about these valves and how they operate. My hydraulic knowledge is extremely limited and there is a lot to learn which is the best part about TBN...tons of brains to pick:thumbsup:

Sorry if my use of caps came off as shouting... It was simply to emphasize the port labels on the valve. You sure are right, there is a wealth of knowledge and talent on TBN.

No problemo:D

It does matter about the plumbing.

The pressure hose from the tractor must go to the IN port on the splitter valve.

The valve does have a relief, and should be adjusted to the same relief as the tractor.

With this valve, you can switch the work port hoses around to suit whichever way the cutting wedge is moving.

If the tractor is set to 2500 psi, the tractor will activate and this will limit the force on your log splitter as the valve used on the log splitter is set to 3000 psi.

That is a 6,283 lbs difference.

JJ, if I take my IR thermometer and record the hose fittings and the splitter valve temps running it plumbed each way will that tell me which way is "right"? Correctly plumbed the temps should be cooler correct? I am now doubting myself as to which way is plumbed right(meaning I might have it wrong), so I want to double check everything.

Don't know about the heat. The valve and fittings might read the same as the heat will try to equalize.

The relief part of the valve might heat up more if relieving a lot.

What was the final outcome on this project?

Are the hoses connected correctly?

The OUT port should go unrestricted to a tank hose.

Well, I thought I had them correct, but when reversed there is no change in operation..... that's why I am so darn confused. Other things have taken priority, but I will dedicate a few hrs this week to look it all over one more time.

Excellent illustration! That's what us "visual" guys need:D

Yes the relief was activating hooked up either way if I held the lever until the ram hit the stops.
