moved the contactor location from frame rail to the plastic body under the hood. was advised not to mount contactor directly to the frame. hope you are out enjoying your ranger crew!

Picked up the new Ranger Crew today......had them order and install the electric bed lift......I noticed a weird situation right away.....I lowered the tailgate and sat on it.....immediately the bed, with the engine off, started raising up.....soon discovered it acted like the lift cylinder wasn't holding pressure in the down position....I took it right back to the dealer and the saleman told me....."that's normal, it's a screw type cylinder, it won't hold pressure when you're sitting that far back on the bed..." I expressed my stern concern real quick....I thought what if I have a load in the bed??? Won't it just start dumping???? After mulling over it awhile I noticed they took the manuel lock off that it had on it from the factory.....I asked for it back so if this cylinder won't hold I can lock the bed down.....The bad thing about that is if it's locked down it'll be real easy for someone to hit the dump switch and tear up something.....

Just need some opinions....is this suppose to be this way??????

Based on this thread, I don't know if I would be sitting on the tailgate.

thats why we makin a rhino bumper that helps support the tailgate too for when people are sitting on it . my buddy has the same problem with his rhino the tail gate is flimsy.i wouldn't go sitting on a ranger or rhino tailgate.

Your misunderstanding.....the tailgate is extremely strong......it's the power lift cylinder that leaks off.....

isn't the ranger tailgate held up with little cables just like the rhino's?? the little cables break off with to much weight. if it's the same as the rhino i could be wrong .

I gotta agree with the comments in the link by BrianW. A good friend of mine (my attorney) has a Ranger and it dumped us on our butts when the cables broke. My RTV900 did the exact same thing to my son and I. I honestly wouldn't say that the tailgate on the Ranger is extremely strong by any means. I haven't seen the '08 Rangers though. I do know that the RTV1100 has tailgate cables that are about 3X the size as the RTV900.

From what you say the Ranger doesn't have hydraulics to raise the bed but rather an electric screw drive system. I've had several Gators that had the same system. On one of them I noticed that the front of the bed would raise a couple of inches if I sat on it or if I stepped on it. It always stopped after raising a couple of inches though. I just lived with it even though none of my other Gators did that. I guess it really depends on how much you want to push your dealer and Polaris. I wouldn't think it would be normal, but I don't think it will cause any real issues though.

Went and looked and it does have cables.....they prob put those little cables on them to discourage putting too much weight on the tailgate....

yea i was kinda takin the wrong way the tail gate is pretty strong it's the cables that are going to give you the problems . unless you have something under the tailgate to help support it i wouldn't go putting my full weight on it.
