Did you know fire is hot? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have you ever taken apart those large lighters that you might use to start a grill or fire? The zappers in some of those can give a good zap. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My Grandfather had acreage and home across from a my alma mater high school; he bought in '41, school came in in '66.

For PE, in conditioning class, at least once a week classes ran off campus. Two runs went around the rural block, of which my Grandfathers land was part of.

Every year there would be a few kids who tried to shortcut across fields. Well, Grandpa kept a few cattle, and irrigated the fields.

So, here you have a sweaty teenager. They are climbing across fences, where the grass is dampish. They are touching thier sweaty bare legs to both the fence, the damp ground, and a little silver wire /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

He used to laugh when he heard one of them holler out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We use 10 000 volt fence charger to un around the 4 acres be hind the shoo in the scrap yard. When we added another 2 acres we put on another 6500 volt charger down the line from it. It serves as a secondary is we want to energize just one section of the fence or if we ant to boost the whole thing. Its fun watching my friends forget that i have 2 chargers theyll unplug one and forget about the other. Ialways treat it like it was on. Our neighbors sold 2 acres to his friend in a hunting club that ajoins the back fence line. He and the surveyors one day bent the fence posts over and sagged the lines crossing it when it was off si i plugged them both in. That afternoon you coul see a surveyors prism about 8 feet inside the fence and some trompled down briars. about once a year we have to tie 2 or 3 goats to a nylon rope and drag them into the fence to break them from juming it. It works they remeber it well.

Carrickfad that little flick of yours gave us all a needed laugh here today. I wonder if I was a moving that fast earlier today myself when I made contact with the charged fence? Thanks for sharing, and it seems like more than a few of us here at TBN have had a new learning experience with an electric fence or two in the past. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

LOL:
that vid clip was great, sure looks like a friend of mine, Gino, but I'll have to RE-LAY it 30 or 40 more itmes to see for sure.!!!

anyhow yep been there done that but not as wonder IF thing, uncles got milk cows and miles of fence, with a NICE big bass pond way back. We fished it many times. with several gates and open pasture to cross, but had to climb UNDER or OVER the fence at the back to get to the pond. sure was a few LOW spots to jump and few more spots to climb under, close to the creek where it washed out by the posts. every now and again you would get it... I think I got it once ot twice myself left welts on the back once when the young cows were in there and it was up on high. knocked me flat like being hit by a truck! face planted into the pasture. one day I went to unhook the gate, and was going to open it for everyone. my buddie was already gonna slide under it, needless to say he tried to ROLL quickly as I was pulling the clip loose to drop it and he rolled up in the dam thing, talk about laughing you're arse off as he was rolling around he jerked the end right out of my hand and proceded to roll around screaming like a banchiee... he ended to with some pretty good ones, I finally stomped on the wire to hold it on the ground to stop his agony only cause I didn't think I could laugh any more before i ralphed out my innards. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Still never figured out why he was gonna ROLL under the gate wire and there was lots of well cow tracks there! hahahaha needless to say I was glad we rode over in the back of the pickup! the next time out same guy, was with us, down by the pond I used my fish rod to LIFT the wire to go under, whats he do, tried to use his WET rod to do the same thing! hahaha poor dumby. he made it under the fence and face first into the creek! again I was glad we took the pickup down there.

anyhow somethign to be aware of for sure. tried to get the old woman to move a hunk of wood on the neibors fence wire but she wouldn't go for it! hahaha, she grew up aorund cows too. and that familiar popping sound was telltail to her.

A couple of years ago I was out in the garden that had 2 wires both electric surrounding it.Being about 400 feet from the power source I thought I would go under as the bottom wire was about 20 inches high. The ground was a little muddy and wet so I didn't want to get right down on the ground. So as I am on my toes and hands POW right in the spine. Before I knew what happened I was flat to the ground full of mud.8000 volts to the spine is not a good thing. I swear it flattened me before I knew what happened.

"Don't pee on the electric fence with either... "

My dad and I raise Brittanies and quail hunt with them like a second religion. Your post made me remeber a few years ago my male dog hiked his leg on a fencepost and there was a low strung hot wire, needless to say that stopped the hunt pronto that day. I was standing close by when it happened and I guess he thought I did it to him or something. He ran to dad and wouldn't come near me at all for a few days, we tried to get him to hunt more that day but he wasn't leaving dad's side. A week or so went by and with a lot of hhot dogs for encouragement and a lot of sitting in a chair scratching him behind the ears and a few truck rides to town and he was fine again. But he still hesitates when he nears a fence, he'll come to them and slowly proceed tehn either jump it or find a place to crawl under. He sure is one heck of a dog too.
