So this happened.
Got a call from an old colleague late in the afternoon.
“Hey you are a woodworker right?”
Me -a bit…
“ well my brother-in-law died about 13 years ago and was an avid woodworker. His wife just passed. Junk dealer is coming tomorrow to got the house and everything is going to be sold/in a dumpster. If you’d like to come, take a look and take what you would like, please do as my wife is sad that all of this stuff is going to be junked etc. They only catch is, you have to be hearing in about 30 minutes and you have about 30 minutes so bring your truck”
It’s sad our life gets reduced to this, and I couldn’t help but think what’s gonna happen in the future with all my tools and shops. It was very bittersweet.
Clearly, the shop had been picked through in the past and many things were missing based on remnants of remaining tooling.
There was no way I was going to muscle out a large table, saw and bandsaw through a bulkhead in 30 minutes. Frankly, they would’ve been donated to the local cat shelter for their year early yard sale anyway as I had no need for them. I was also very clear with my colleague that the electrical tools as shown in picture three will also be donated to the cat shelter. As animal lovers, they were very appreciative to be raising funds for the shelter.. the one thing that they were extremely happy that I took was the remainder of the wood. A lot of it was walnut. Nearly all of that was dated to the year of his death, sadly. Once again, reminding us of projects that never get finished.
So a lot of the smalls, including chisels, bits, hand, saws, planes, and clamps will go to good use.
The wood, I will make them something to remind them of their lost loved one.
Again, bittersweet
