I highly recommend a block heater. My dealer threw one in at no extra charge because he knew it would reduce his warranty costs in time. Make sure you get the kind that goes in the block where the soft plug goes. It doesn't use that much electricity and I use a timer to have it come on a couple of hours before I go out to start it.

Re: Block Heater

BTW... I checked with my dealer: the block heater option sold by NH for the TC 25/29/33 models pulls 600 watts.

Why did I bother asking? I was hoping to get one of those cigarette lighter plug power inverters (12 VDC in => 120 VAC out) so I could plug in my tractor to the car for a preheat (at least until the power gets hooked up out at our new homesite). Unfortunately, most of the local auto parts stores only sell 300 watt units. Larger ones are made, but they are expensive, and you need to hook them up directly to the battery in the car or truck (and make sure your car or truck's charging system can handle the draw... 600 watts is 50 AMPs at 12 VDC, plus some fudge-factor to allow for the inefficiency of the inverter). Oh well... I needed to look into a generator anyway.

I switched to a N/H multi-vis when I serviced the one I had and it pretty much did away with the whine. Have heard the synthetic is better yet.

Re: Block Heater

I don't know the price on the block heater. It was included in my original purchase. I can't imagine it's very expensive though.

When I did my 50 hr. service I used F200 and it helped quiet my TC-18 HST. When it's time to change it again I may go with a syn.,don't know? The F200 is 5-20 wt. I'm not sure about the MC200. dass

Bayrat, do you know what the NH spec # is on what you put in? No one I've talked to can tell me if the NH MC200 is synthetic or multi-vis or both.

DVestaburg, your dealer is the first I've heard say anything about having to change back for summer use. My manual says both fluids are OK for year-round use while the MC200 is better if you do a lot of cold weather operation. I just figured it was like multi-vis motor oil - same multi-vis grade works year round.

Just from reading the jug, I would say it is multi-vis. I used it year round.

<font color=blue>Home now and checked the container. It is f200 and I know it is not synthetic, the dealer called it "semi-synthetic". Just multi-vis but works great year round.
