New tiller setup - dang...

Well, Day 2. Things went faster and smoother today. Hooked up the shaft, cut measurement is good, moved into an out of the way position, lowered the tiller, and engaged it. Hmm.. Didn't slip. Tried a couple more times and no slip.

Pulled over to the shade, unhooked the tiller, removed the shaft, went back into the shop, Loosen the clutch 1 more revolution and retried it. Worked. Retightened the clutch, reassembled, hooked up, and did a few test passes with the tiller. All good.

You got the right tiller. The 0550 is junk compared to the 1250. You won't be disappointed.

I am surprised about you having to cut the PTO shaft though. I didn't have to do anything with mine.

In the interest of being as fair to the machines as possible; I had some time today to work on the hitch. Took five minutes of tweaking the 3-point hitch and the newly fitted top link hook, backed right up and locked in the box blade with the first try. We'll see tomorrow if everything performs well and see how swapping to the backhoe goes but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Sometimes it just takes some venting to make the universe want to contradict you so badly it makes things work out.

Glad to hear your new tiller did its job. I added a tiller this year as well, its not setup for the quick hitch yet but ran fine with the regular 3-point setup. Having a tiller available is really a game changer when it comes to planting things. Things like that are pretty obvious to farmers and working tractors, but to me being new to all of this and just messing around its a revelation!

I've trolled through CL for equipment but never found anything worth bothering with. It seems like by the time someone decides to sell an implement its to the point of looking like a crushed soda can. There was a rear blade and bush hog that came with the tractor (and the tractor came with the farm) and they're both so beat there's often welding involved with for each use. Everything else I've bought has been new and have all been really nice pieces of gear, its the lack of consistent fit and just generally low tolerances that have been surprising.

Yeah, it is odd about the PTO shaft. Couple people said I should not have had to cut it. But I did the side by side and marked where the plastic shields would be if touching the opposite universal joint shield. Had to take off around 2". Regardless, it seems to be working fine now.

I know what you mean about CL stuff looking ready for the scrap heap. Either that or it's in good shape and they want near retail for it.

I set up a daily email alert for 3pt stuff. Did get a landscape rake for $100 that needed cleaning up and repainting - was a good deal. Beyond that, skim the email and then delete it.

Makes me kind of glad I went with one of the last tillers cabelas had to match my tractor. Was a couple of hundred more than a landpride or other 3rd party brand, but all I had to do was connect it and go. Now if only the ground around here wasn't 90% rock, I'd be in hog heaven. Nothing like Mississippi. There if I found a rock it was a Pebble someone had dropped. But ground is fertile, obviously No one has ever tilled it before
I've got to make a rock sorter and clean it out somewhat this winter. At least the boulders
