Tiller New Tiller

Bought a new tiller yesterday. I got the Bushhog RTS-50.
Tilled the garden in no time.
I was going to buy the Frontier but the Bushhog had two more rows of tines. Same price.
Worked really well on the 2210. Never bogged the engine, not too heavy.
Worked great.

I have the same tiller. Seems to be a good unit.

One thing I noticed tilling our hard clay is that if you have the skid shoes set at 4" depth, the thing bounces and chatters. I changed to the 2" and it was smooth as silk. I think it has to do with the angle of attack of the blades. On the second pass, the skid shoes were 2" deep in the loose soil, giving me 4" of depth easily. I plan to keep them at 2" no matter how deep I plan to till and just make multiple passes.

Steve, I bought a tiller for my tractor a month ago, but haven't tried it yet. Conditions are pretty favorable here in Southern Indiana for tilling right now...and I may try it out today if the rain holds off. I was wondering...do you have a creeper gear in your tractor? If not, what kind of depth were you taking in each pass....and what kind of soil? How many passes?

Hey Pete.
I would say our soil is not too much different. I am less than an hour from you. I live just east of Columbus.
I have a hydo tractor so I went pretty slow.
I put it in as deep as it would go, of course this was a previous garden.
I took two passes, maybe three. This was the first time I had used a tiller so I was kinda enjoying myself!
