Oil & Fuel New to diesel - winter operation question

/ New to diesel - winter operation question #11
First of all Welcome.

No one has mentioned this yet. Diesel you can normally buy in the winter has been adjusted (winterized) by the distributer or oil company to perform well in the winter. Only problems I have heard of is when there is an early cold snap and you still have the summer blend in the tank, or you have not used all of the summer blend you bought and try to use it in winter without an additive.

I live in Wisconsin and use the power service year round with no fuel problems.

Wow!

I really appreciate everyone's input on this - the tractor was delivered last night and I couldn't be happier. The delivery guy was just as helpful. I guess tractors attract people that want to give others the benefit of their experiences - instead of just 'talking' like some people I know.

For some reason - likely because it's my own - I've a whole new respect for this piece of equipment that I simply haven't had with other machinery. I've operated plenty of tractors - JCBs, Deeres, Bobcats, etc. that I've borrowed or worked with - but nothing compares to the pride of owning my own. Even if it's the smallest of the lot - sort of has it's own appeal.

So, thanks for the welcome and hopefully someday I'll be educating the next generation of tractor owners with tips from all of you.

Another newbie question - so after reading this thread yesterday, I was at AutoZone last night gettting Power Service...so now the question, not ideal, but I added it to the tractor tank as well as to my fuel can - if I run the tractor for a period of time, will it mix appropriately?

Am I at risk of "waxing" because we have had a few cold nights?

All feedback welcome...

Curt

I use Power Service (white bottle) year round. It lowers the gel point of BioDiesel as well.

I'd say yes, based on my experience you should be OK. I add 75 ml of Power Serve into my diesel container and then poor that into the tractor tank. Unless you bought fuel from a station that has too much water in their fuel, as I did, you should be OK.

The Power Service will readily mix with the fuel in the tank. Just driving the tractor will slosh it aroung enough to mix it. If you're worried about gelling in the lines and filter just run the engine long enough after you added the Power Service to flush the untreated fuel out of the lines and filter and you're good to go. If it is already gelled just pull it inside and put some heat to it and it will de-gel it. Then add your stuff and run it to flush it through the system.

Power Service. Tank or fuel can. No worries.

Welcome to TBN. If you haven't read the forum rules, be advised you are required to provide the following:

1. At least one post where you stuck it or got up on two wheels within the next week.

(If you do the two wheels post, never admit your ROPS was folded. Ever.)

2. At least one post bragging about doing your own 50hr service by spring.

(Alternately, you may substitute one post complaining about how dang expensive SUDT is)

Have a blast,

Russell in Texas

Power Service is what I use to keep the fuel from gelling.
