Power Service. Tank or fuel can. No worries.

Welcome to TBN. If you haven't read the forum rules, be advised you are required to provide the following:

1. At least one post where you stuck it or got up on two wheels within the next week.

(If you do the two wheels post, never admit your ROPS was folded. Ever.)

2. At least one post bragging about doing your own 50hr service by spring.

(Alternately, you may substitute one post complaining about how dang expensive SUDT is)

Have a blast,

Russell in Texas

Now that's funny!

This is embarrasing - but I suppose that's what's handy about the anonimity of the internet and sites like this...

I'm expecting delivery of a new BX1500 any day now. Typical winter temps in this part of Vermont are 20s by day in Jan to a little below 0 at night. When it gets 'really cold,' I don't anticipate a need to start the tractor, as there typically isn't any snow to be removing at temps below -10 (some day if I can afford a 3-pt-hitch generator, that may change).

I asked the dealer to put in a block heater in place of one of the freeze plugs.

My question is about diesel additives in cold weather - i.e. adding kerosene to diesel - I've seen it mentioned here and there, but without a 'recipe.' What percentage of kerosene to diesel? Does it depend on 20s vs. teens vs. negative temps? Do all fuel dealers that sell diesel also sell kerosene? In the spring and warmer temps, if I have a gallon of diesel/kerosene mix, will it harm the engine to run it?

Thanks in advance.
Just buy winter blend in the winter and summer blend in the summer.and forget the kerosene mixing hassle.
Add 5 ounces of Power Service to each 5 gallon of diesel year round and yer good to go all year long.

Another newbie question - so after reading this thread yesterday, I was at AutoZone last night gettting Power Service...so now the question, not ideal, but I added it to the tractor tank as well as to my fuel can - if I run the tractor for a period of time, will it mix appropriately?

Am I at risk of "waxing" because we have had a few cold nights?

All feedback welcome...

Curt
No need to add it to both.I add it to the can.

1*The only thing i add is 3 Oz of power service to 5 gal of diesel year round
2*Would not advise doing that because the suppliers have it covered with the winter blend.
Adding kerosene will dilute the blend and screw up the formulas
3* Why not just leave it up to the fuel suppliers since they already have it taken care of?
4* I've seen >
stations that have kerosene but not diesel
stations that have diesel but not kerosene
stations that have diesel & kerosene
5*Leave it to the fuel suppliers to handle it and you won't have any such mix to be concerned about.

Around here most home heating fuel sold is a 50/50 mix of diesel and kero but costs more than just #2 home heating diesel.
.
Diesel is the only thing we have here for engines and heating homes.

???

Oh well, I'm off to go find one of my thread-ending posts from a year ago and respond to it.

Is it better to reopen an old dormant thread or start a new thread and repeat ourselves if we can remember what we stated previously ;)?

I was ranting and raving all last winter because of ULSD gelling challenges until I added a "double shot" of Power Service (White Bottle).
