We'll I just got back home. Progress made. Thanks for the suggestions.
Tested as suggested, all connection cleaned, no shorts in distro feed thru, or base. Points were a tad closed. Adjusted to spec -test light blinking so tested spark. Still no spark. Checked coil and found secondary resistance was about 15 Kohima - much higher than spec. Put in new coil and now have strong spark!!
Tried to start. No go. Fuel not getting to cylinders. Sediment bowl full but rusty. Cleaned it and blew out line to tank. Added more fuel to tank for some pressure. Turned over multiple times but nothing and found No gas smell at carb throat, nor wetness visible. Still no fuel to cylinders.
Just to check if it was the carb- I shot about 1 sec off starting fluid into carb throat, closed choke and turned it over. - it fired up immediately and smoothly. Saw a bit of oil pressure before it shut down. No chances so only did it once.
Looks like carb will have to be disassembled to clean passages. Also found that the shutoff valve has slow leak leaks next trip up I'll pull tank, clean, service/replace valve, and work on the carb. Or should I work the charging side first? Or something else entirely? I tried some 6 volt 3watt panel bulbs but they did not come on even with the good spark. Anyone have a good source for the right bulbs? Ford dealer was no help-only showed 12 volt bulbs.
For the carb is it best to rebuild, buy a rebuilt or buy a new? Do they usually need a new float? The kit from the dealer does not have the float.
Found the SOS strap on drivers left side just above the serial numbers. Just left if for now - won't try to move, I think the engine is ok. Just neglected.
Serial numbers the best I can see are below. However, some of the stamps are worn. I took pics if they don't make sense.
Engine: Conn 7006-B
B CWC T
A265
Tran: 2 263
Dif CONN. 4024. F. (Not at all sure of the "dif" could just be damaged "off" for the SOS strap above)
Thanks!!
