New toy!

Looking on the Ford website tonight I found the performance specs. My truck has the 4.6L V-8 w 3.55 rear end ratio, this truck is rated to pull 6200 lbs. The engine peak HP is 231 @ 4750 rpm, the peak torque is 293 lb.-ft. @ 3500 rpm. Using the formula [Torque=(HP x 5252)/rated hp rpm ] I found that at peak hp the engine is cranking out 255 lb.-ft. torque, mathematically reversing the forumla I found that at peak torque the engine has 195 HP. I have yet to feel what this is, I have been real eay on the truck and I don't think I have even gone over 3000 rpm yet. I do know that you can do 75 mph and feel like you're doing 40mph. I'm surprised I haven't got a speeding ticket yet. At 55 mph I'm running about 1500 rpm, 70 mph just under 2000 rpm, 75 mph right at 2000 rpm. The last st. I must travel before I get out of town on the way home is a 25 mph speed limit and I dern near have to ride the break to be legal, it wants to go. The truck also has 4-wheel disc brakes standard.

I work midnights in a power plant, the guiding thing is more for fun than for income. The only bad thing is I can guarantee that an otherwise good birddog will want to see what's in the back of my truck and whenhe does he'll leave his paw prints and scratch marks. Or I'll throw a large stone out of the treads and leave a good ding. I guess it has to happen someway and somehow, it may as well happen when I'm hunting and enjoying myself.

Congratulations, Birdhunter on your new truck! It's a great feeling to buy that first new vehicle. Day before yesterday, I did the same thing....traded in my 2000 F150 for a new 2004 model....supercab XLT with the 4.6L V-8. I do notice the difference in power since my 2000 model had the 5.4L. But the ride, wow!!! My son came over last night (your age), drooling over it. He tells me that the outboard mounted shocks make all the difference. Have fun and stay safe with your new toy!

Congrats on the new truck. My father-in-law has the F150 King Ranch, and man is that thing sexy! I couldn't afford such a vehicle, but I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for anything. Enjoy that pick-up, you'll love it!

Yep, I can remember when my Dad bought his only new truck, a 1977 Ford F150 (auto trans and radio as options), and the bumper was extra. Don't think the spare tire was extra, though. My mother was really confused, because she thought trucks ought to come with rear bumpers -- after all, cars came that way!

We kept the F150 in the family for about 15 years before I sold it to a co-worker. Not only was it a good truck, but it was a great remembrance for us, because my Dad passed away shortly after the purchase. Keeping it in the family was a good reminder of him.

The F150 is still out in Leavenworth county working as a non-licensed farm truck.

And here I am at fifty years old and in the truck business yet I've NEVER bought a brand new truck for personal use. I did order a new Ford Thunderbird years ago and that was the only new vehicle purchased for me. I sold it the ninth month Ii owned it.

I'm happy to trade the first 20,000 miles or so in exchange for paying half price. I don't know if I'm right or wrong. It's just what I've always done when I wanted a 'new' vehicle.

I had to get my 95 F350 crew cab new. Problem was, around here at least, the one ton crew cabs were scarce, and everyone demanded premium prices to the extent that used cost nearly as much as new. I voted on new, got the few options I wanted, and got it direct from the factory. All the lot models had way too many extra options for my pocket book at the time. Have been very happy with it and would do it again. I will probably check the used market again, first, and go from there when I need its replacement.
