Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

You won't regret it. I was originally heading up to my NH dealer to get a tc18 for my first 3 acers.. when I got there they had a used 1920 that had a rebuilt engine w/ 4 hours on it.. all work done at that dealer.. was also a lease or warranty trae out temp unit. It was the same price as the tc18.. just a few yeras old.. I got it and love it.. and that 1920 is just a tad small er than the tc 40...

I'm glad I got it as we got another ten acers a year later..

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Now the problem will be attachments. The first question everyone asks when you say you bought a tractor is "what size and kind did you get" The second is "what did you get on it" here lies the problem, I still say that I can go to NC and get that TC24 with a loader for less than the price of this TC40 and where we were worried before about getting a big enough tractor to use the 5ft box grader that we already have, the TC40 can handle an even bigger one and the 5ft might look funny with it. I only have 5 acres, true someday it might be more, but someday I could trade-up, right?

I don't know why I am even bringing this up since as long as there are no problems monday, they will be delivering the TC40

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Traci, first of all, CONGRATULATIONS! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You just bought a tractor with many features you may never discover that would not be available on a TC24. How about fully adjustable width rear wheels ( the rim separates from the hub)? I think you will get used to the size, but watch out around trees because you are pretty tall and low limbs will catch on your ROPS.

You didn't mention whether the tractor has ag tires, industrial tires, or turf tires. With gear tractors, I think ag tires or industrial tires are the most common.

Also, did you mention whether it was 2WD or 4WD? All those things have a big effect on price. If your tractor is 2WD, your deal is not nearly as good. As a matter of fact, that price is less than $500 off the new price. DANG IT! I hate to put a damper on your deal, but I think I owe it to you to "tell it like it is." If Spencer200 or someone else with more info can dispute my estimate, please do it now. If your tractor is 4WD, I think you got a very good deal. As an example of what I'm saying, I bought my TC45D in early 2001 for about $17,800 (price before adding the 16LA Loader). Now this $17,800 was a "loader ready" tractor price which means it had the joystick and all the hydraulics installed for a loader. If the cost of all that were removed (say $800) then a 4WD and Hydro tranny TC45D would be around $17,000. The Hydro and 4WD options are at least $3000, so take those away and you have a TC45, 2WD, and 12x12 shuttle shift tractor for $14,000. Do you see why I'm being skeptical? GROAN! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Gosh, I am sorry if I've put a "damper" on your excitement. I really hate doing this. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

By the way, your 5' boxblade will be fine behind the tractor. I have a 5' and a 5-1/2' that I've had for 8 years and they do just fine behind my TC45D. If you were buying new, you might want to go 6', but since you already have the blade, I would not worry about it.

Traci, please tell us a little more about the tractor. If it's 4WD, I'll feel a lot better. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If it's 4WD and "loader ready" you got a great deal. If it has a loader, you "stole it." /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Jinman,

In answer to your questions, yes it is a 4WD, No it doesn't have the joystick and No it doesn't have the Hydro as I said it is the TC40A. The dealer said the loader is about $4000 does that not include the joystick and such?

I stated in my earlier post I have now found the TC40A at Corriher a 2004 model for 14,850 so 850 in savings isn't that great when I don't even need this size. I could have the TC24 with the loader for under the $14,000 that we are getting just the tractor for. But at this point I doubt I will convince my husband. He took the ONE look of uncertainty and excitement on my face when the salesman showed us the TC40A and ran all the way to the bank /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All the research I had done is now out of the window and I am cleaning the garage so both my van and the new BIG tractor will fit.

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Oops I forgot one of your questions - It has R4 tires with the webbing still visable on most of the tire.

Also I will say, Not to get anything started, but I went back and read quite a few of your posts and didn't really find any that are as negative as the posts you have for me. example (the I don't mean this in a derogatory way but, If you wear rubber gloves to change your oil it doesn't sound like you would want to work on your tractor) actually it is just the opposite like I have stated before I would rather re-grout my bathroom tile than cook Thanksgiving dinner. In fact it won't be me doing all that cooking tomorrow, I have already made a deal with my husband that I would gladly clean out the garage to get that tractor in there if he would cook.

Then you last post made it sound like you didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but you had no trouble giving it to me. I have already had the buyers remorse I don't need this big of a tractor, but I don't think there is anything I can do about it now and keep the peace with the guy in charge.

But, please give me the facts as you see them, I can handle it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Traci,
I don't think Jim is trying to be as rude and negative as you might think he is being /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. He's just trying to give experienced help and opinions. Basically wishing he could have helped you before hand if it would’ve made a difference. All in all no matter what others say you make your own decisions and if your happy with them then what else matters /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I think this is what the forum is for. For experienced answers and help. I know I'm getting close to purchasing a Class III Boomer myself and I couldn't be more thankful for the help and honesty of some of the veteran tractor owners and members of TBN. And I’m sure you are as well, but don’t take Jim in the wrong way, he’s not out to be discourage anyone.

Please don't be offended by these people. Most of them all mean well and I myself can't wait to join the Blue team just as you have. Again congratulations on your new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

Traci

As I've said earlier, you've done fine and you'll enjoy your machine. I've owned 5 Ford / New Hollands with the 2 I have presently both larger than the one your getting. The TC40 is a fine first tractor. Big enough to do some real work, but yet small enought to get around easily. The price you're getting is fine and I think the $4000 for the loader would include the controls. Any time I've gotttten a loader price it was an installed price. Enjoy your new machine. It'll be one of your pride and joys along with your kids. I was taught to operate a Ford 8N when I was 8 and I taught my 3 kids to operate at 8 also. It makes for some great times with the kids. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: New Tractor Owner! But you won\'t believe this!

I bought a used TC35D in January with 16LA FEL and 450 hours for $14,500. I felt it was a good deal based on what I had been seeing for the 6 months I had been looking around here for both used and new. I was sure I wanted a TC33 but am SO glad I got the bigger tractor. I got this one with loader for less than two local dealers quoted a new TC33D. Bottom line, I think you'll like the bigger tractor and it sounds like you're ok with the price based on your research of the local market. If you're pleased once its delivered and you have had a chance to play with it, that's what matters. Have fun with it!

( the I don't mean this in a derogatory way but, If you wear rubber gloves to change your oil it doesn't sound like you would want to work on your tractor) )

Traci, I don't know why you made the comment about the rubber gloves, but I would have said the same thing about anyone who made that statement. That sounds to me like someone who wants only to do the regular maintenance on a tractor and not break it apart and replace the clutch. If that's not what you meant, then I stand corrected. ...no problem. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

...and yes, you didn't tell us it was a 4WD tractor. Does the "A" in TC40A mean 4WD? Way back in the early days of TBN I told a guy that he had spent about $3000 too much for his tractor and as a result I got "beat up" pretty badly for giving him the bad news. Mind you, no one said my info was wrong, but just that I had put a damper on his excitement. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Well, so be it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I think you want me to be honest and my grief was due to "having" to break some bad news. I am completely happy that your tractor is 4WD. I think you are gonna LOVE that tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
