New trailer hitch law in NY?

/ New trailer hitch law in NY? #11
I was involved in an accident in Cicero, NY many years ago. Sitting in evening commute traffic at a standstill when I was rear ended pretty hard. Yup, the ball mount was sticking out the back end of my truck. It punched through the grill and radiator of the old Mercury Topaz that hit me. Everything else lined up with my bumper pretty good and basically wadded the front of the car. There was a very small mark on my rear bumper, not even a dent. The Topaz was towed from the scene. I drove on to my date.

I'm glad it turned out to be an unfounded rumor. I tow a lot with my pick up, and really wouldn't want to have to remove the hitch every time I take my trailer off.
Sounds like another law to slow down the working man. Mine stays in, god help the officer who pulls me over for that- he will get an earful-respectfully :)

I have heard the same thing in Maryland. As far as I know its a rumor. I can't find it in the books anywhere.

This thread just rubbed me wrong , George said a "new law" ,how can a 4 year old link be deemed correct and he is automatically wrong .I know he didn't show a link to support him and may have got the info from someone who knew someone else who said this so it may not be true . People including myself get riled up to easy.

On the topic of smart ,they look just as smart sticking out there as the guy driving around with plastic bull testiculs hanging by a chain from his bumper.

I question peoples choice of cars styles and colors all the time but I don't let it bother me. I leave my hitch in half the time and if you don't like it ts.

I'm just hoping they haven't changed the law and the agency that issued a ticket for this is wrong. I didn't get the ticket but a friend of a friend did. I know my friend wouldn't tell me that if it weren't true. I did make copies of JJZ's link to keep in my truck and pass along. Just hope the law hasn't been changed since 4 years ago. What a PITA it would be to have to pull the hitch out after each use.
I have looked on line but haven't found anything about this new law (if it exists). At this point it's just word of mouth.
