You won't have any more or less problems with your Jinma than with any other Jap tractor. I have both and i can say one thing for sure. If you have a Jap John Deere and it breaks, it will cost you many times what the chinese counter part would cost. The china tractors are built pretty tough and are very, very easy to service. Parts are easy to get mail order. You will find that most people who slam these things have never owned one, and I bet have never even seen one in person. We use to talk the Japan stuff down in the 60's and look at it now.

nic, I have no experience with Chinese tractors; only looked at some a few years ago before buying a Kubota and didn't like what I saw at that time. So register, join the group, tell us what experience you've had, etc. Maybe you know something that will help the rest of us somewhere down the road. Who knows? We may all be driving Chinese tractors someday.

Re: Tell us more

I too would be interested in your experience with both tractors. Come on in, register, and join the discussions.

Alan L, The local Kubota dealer had a L3000DT parked out front, so I couldn't resist, but to stop and take a look. From this quick look, I would say it is definetly a step above the Jinma 254. The dealer quoted me list, around $14,200, I think. He kinda indicated 8-10% off that would be the price. I think he would go lower if I was truely serious on buying it. Nice tractor, though.

That is simply not the complete story. I personally know guys and have tryed to help them find parts for off-brand and chinese tractors, it's a nightmare at best!! Once you get parts half the time they don't fit right and either have to be machined to fit right or sent back. Then good luck on trying to get somebody to work on one. One of my friends has one that is still sitting in pieces in his shop because all they could find was a chinese manual. He looked all over for someone to work on it and noone would touch it so he tore into it. It's still tore apart 2 years later and noone will work on it. Dealers and service is few and far between and parts are very expensive. While you may have been lucky in finding cheap parts and service everyone I know it has been the exact opposite.

cowboydoc, What brand of Chinese tractor does your friend have? If it is a Jinma, he should be able to find parts and manuals. I found 3 more Jinma dealers doing a web search last night. But, there are many different brands coming from China.

Actually brands is probably not a good description. It is more of what factory it was made in. The Jinma, for instance has many brand names. A couple of links below, have pictures of some of the many tractors.

Try contacting Maverick tractor. They have alot of experience with different chinese tractors, including the Jinma. Mike has been very helpful for me, even though I have not purchased from him.
If that is a dead-end, try China Depot. http://www.chinadepot.com/ Walter might be able to help, but he doesn't carry Jinma or their parts.

I would also be interested in exactly what failed.

Good luck with your Jinma! I followed you over from the old CTOA message board. I think you'll do just fine with your tractor. If I find any information for you I'll pass it on but I think you've got every angle covered. I was looking at Jinmas and I found a dealer that was selling Rhinos in the crate. In the end I settled on a used Cub Cadet 7260 with 300 hrs . It came with a loader and it was priced a few hundred dollars more than a new Jinma. I honestly believe Jinmas are going to catch on big time. I just didn't have enough confidence in the guy assembling it(namely me). I'm very interested in your future posts on setting up your tractor. Thanks for your help on the old CTOA site, It looks like there is a ton of info here also.

because all they could find was a chinese manual. Richard, are you saying the manuel was written in chinese?
I have seen a couple of people make the comment that any diesel mechanic could work on these engines. True, but only if they have the proper service manuels. I would guess this is the main reason most won't touch these machines.
