New vs used......Mahindra or other

I also bought a used tractor (75hrs) and it has worked out good for me. Saved about $2500 vs the new and I even payed sales tax. Many people buy tractors with 1000+ hours and have been reporting good experiences. That many hours sounded scary to me but I'm very much of a greenhorn when it comes to tractors and apparently 1k hrs is not that bad at all.

My friend Steve has close to 12,000 hrs on his 100 hp MF and it is still going strong. (Great pic easygo, what a cute baby)

As many as 1000 hrs scares ya? (chukle)... That's just good and broke in!

I expect 4x that out of a modern deisel.. and 8-12 out of one of the big ones if well cared for.

My gasser ford 850 from 1955 has a proofmeter that died.. apepars to have near 4k on it when it did. engine is old 4cyl 172ci job... got some blowby out the crank breather but don't smoke out the tail pipe.. got some creaks and plenty o' nearly worn out parts.. but still strong and useable..

In fact.. most of my tractors are oldies... i got some from the 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's..

I vote for Mahindra, save the extra money or go buy some implements. Offer the $10000 you never know.

My tractor had 236hrs and has been great for me.

I vote for the most hp that you can afford and low hour wise. The affordability is both in size, if you can go larger go larger, but watch your turning radius and size to go in the barn etc. You will always get into a situation that that 20hp is just not enough to get it done and you will go a renting again.

Appreciate the input. If storage space in the barn was not an issue, I'd just go with something like a nice used MF 255. Ran across some clean used ones that are certainly a "great deal" compared to new compact tractors. The old farm boy in me pines for that option.

Of the new tractors I have looked at, the Mahindra 2615 gear is first choice, JD 790 second (not all makes are close enough for me to check out in person). Was realling liking the NH TC30, but they seem to want big bucks for a loader - $16,000+. New Cub Cadet Yanmar seems really nice for the price, but again, do I need to spend $16,000 + ? Could always go with an older used Yanmar, but how does one tell a good one from a Vietnamese-cheapo rebuild? Sorta the same thing with a Chinese tractor. I could go that route, but realistically I do not have the time to fool with potential little issues that may pop up (I want the tractor to save me some time....)

I was trying to say that I thought 1000hrs was a lot before I knew better:eek: . Yeah 1k hrs sounds scary when I don't know how to fix it if something was to go south. Now I know better and I will just ease into the problems sloooowly.
Thanks for the comment Oleozz. That's my 7mos old boy putting up with my ideas of funny.
