All you need now Ian is a pair of restrain chains so it does not wander all over when backing.

Another vote for a front hitch. I have two trucks with hitches on the front. Makes backing 4 wheel hay wagons a dream. I even drilled a hole in the end of one of my forks to push and pull wagons.

The down side to pushing with the front of a truck is when the wagon is loaded, you can't see anything. Backing the wagon in with the truck allows you to use the mirrors that are out further and also keeps you further away so you can see more around the wagon then you can the other way. If the wagons empty its easy to back up as you just watch the back of the trailer.

Backing it up will be good practice for learning to operate a backhoe. Equally difficult. Must have been the same inventor.
