I had in mind buying just the blade and the black bracket photographed on the John Deere 318 - none of the yellow bracketing. See the website under "Johnny Plow Sr." I thought it would attach easily to the bucket loader lip - just like a toothbar.

I used the FEL for the first time on Tuesday and worry that the front edge of the bucket will wear out on my gravel driveway over time - not completely, but soon won't have a square edge to it for back dragging, etc.

Anyone have pictures of a home made front blade for a small tractor like my BX1500? I've seen plenty of Curtis blades, so I know I'm not too far off the mark on this. Thanks.
I'd be a lot more concerned about bending up the FEl Bucket by putting a JB on it than I would be with wearing out the front edge of the fel bucket on a gravel driveway.

Thanks for the Hawkline tip... I've left them a message to inquire about price, as there are no local dealers.

The other thought I had was getting an ATV blade (i.e. Snowsport) that attaches with a receiver hitch - and modifying the hitch for use on the FEL.

We'll see.

I think I'll fiddle around for a few more snow storms with just the FEL before spending any more money.

Here is my solution.

Since I added a receiver hitch to the front grill guard of my BX, I've thought that I could build a blade and use it to push snow in lieu of the FEL. we don't get enough snow to mess with, so I doubt I do this project.

A front blade is good for more than snow.
There is dirt sand gravel slag mulch rocks and who knows what else to move with it.

bxowner,

LBrown59 makes a very valid point about the many uses of a front blade and I agree with him. But for snow, I've found that nothing beats a front mounted snow blower. I can blow the snow far enough that it becomes a non-issue no matter how much it snows. For me, my neck and one shoulder are too old for any of the rear mount blades or snowblowers. With a front snowblower, I don't care if it snows every other day, I don't have to worry about when and how the piles will melt. Kubota has made FEL removal so easy that I'll never have anything else.

For all the other uses pointed out by LBrown59, it's tough to beat a front blade.

Well, thanks for everyone's input.

Today will be a test - first (if you can believe it) 'significant' snowfall of the season expected - I'll probably begin saving for a snowblower attachment after 6-12" is done falling.

Given your location and the potential for a lot of snow the front blower would be the way to go. BUT be warned it is the most expensive option. Soon after u get the blower u will want a cab. Between the 2 will set u back about $4K:mad: BUT it is worth every $$, see my set up on the link below my name.:D

Here's something I ran across that would work on any FEL bucket. I don't use a blade often enough to swap out my back blade, plus I would really hate myself if I twisted the loader somehow. Maybe I'm worried about nothing, but this seems like a great solution for ease of installation and universal fitment.

Here is a message I got from Hawkline requesting more info about the Clamp on front end loader grader blade.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in Hawkline Nevada , LLC. I regret to inform you that we have discontinued the Clamp on Front End Loader that you are interested in. This item was probably priced too high compared to competition and as a result the sales did not justify continuing to produce it.

I would suggest you check on-line with Northern Tool & Equipment for similar products. Web site address: Generators, Pressure Washers, Heaters and Stoves, Snow Blowers, Trailer Parts, and more from NorthernTool.com

Best regards,

How about that for company honesty! Our price was too high! Try our competitor!

Its a shame that a high school student on drugs designed the week site. The world is flashing, the world is flashing .....help.

How did the test go for you? It takes some practice, but it is fun none the less.

Does anybody have one of these KASCO loader blades for their BX?

I've had another thought on how to add a snow blade. Similar to the wood board option in another post, but more official.

It involves cutting a 1/3 circle out of a piece of large diameter HDPE storm drain pipe...perhaps 48" (which I can get rather readily from a contractor friend)...needs to be "Type S" or smooth internal wall. Make a metal frame to clamp inside the bucket, mount it at an angle, and you have a super-duper snow pusher thing that won't mess up the driveway. And it shouldn't wear too much...HDPE is wickedly tough stuff.

I'll post pictures as soon as I have it built. Getting the pipe now.
