New Year\'s Snow Storm

Well, it's about only 9 days after our Christmas snowstorm of 2 feet and we are now in the midst of another projected 18-24" snowstorm scheduled to continue through Saturday afternoon. Good news about all of this snow is it has put my JD4710 to the test and the 4710 so far has come through with flying colors. I just pop the 4710 into 4WD and pull out of the garage and with the R-1 bar tires have no problem going through 2 feet. This tractor was certainly worth every penny as far as this task is concerned. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I trust all other TBNers throughout New England are able to cope with the snow as well as I have. RickZ-- I trust you got your new chains for the Oliver.

Best of New Year's wishes to everyone this year.

Bob

Bob, You are having all the fun. I don't have a flake of snow on the ground here.

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Sorry to hear that Spence....we too have had those dry seasons our way in the past. This winter though is making up for all those dry ones 10-fold. I trust you'll get one of those lake effect storms that'll give you the block busters we've been getting.

BTW, been away for awhile but now I'm back and see you're making good progress on the pole barn project. I still say you're one of the best innovative and creative TBNers in these forums. Congrats.

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Bob, I expect we're getting some of what you will be getting. I cleared out my driveways just before dark and have another 6-8" now. I was just about ready to fire up the 4100 and go out and have some more fun when our local fire company got activated to stand by. So that's where I'll likely be most of the night. But it's warm, and we have RoadRunner here (I have to settle for dial-up at home) at the station.

Have fun!

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Me neither! Well, maybe half a dozen flakes so far, but not the 6-14" the weatherman was promising!

Pete

Update at 3:00am: Snowing like a son of a gun! Four inches since I went to bed, and really coming down! The bobsled run lives!!!

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Wellllll,,,you guys can put all the kinds of spin you want on it, but you ain't gonna convince this ole' Texas boy that snow is a good thing.

Our weatherman is predicting 60's and sunny for the weekend. Brrr,,,better wear my jacket.

Dave -- How utterly boring for you! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

This California escapee never realized how much fun the changing of the seasons could be! I now have seasonal activities -- and foods -- that are eagerly anticipated during their respective off seasons. And there's always something to look forward to.

So for now I'll enjoy my bobsled run and snowball fights...and in a few months there will be gardens to plant and stone to harvest from the fields. By May or June we'll have liquid water again. It's a beautiful life!

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Oh, I like the changing seasons,,,just without the snow.

And that mention about liquid water around May or June,,,that doesn't sound like much fun either.

Naw,,,I'd rather live thru 30 days in a row over 100 (like we had in summer of 84), then slosh thru a bunch of cold, wet, slippery, nasty, cold,,,did I say cold,,, snow.

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

I'm jealeous Bob. We had a nice snow for Christmas which melted by New Years. Another inch or so the other day and maybe an inch or two today. Really not enough to do much with although my wife does want me to find her cross country skis this morning. Have fun with what you're getting /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Well, it's just after 8AM Saturday morning....just came in from outside and I'm estimating we have so far about 16" that has fallen so far. It's still snowing at a moderate rate and weather forecasters are predicting another 3-6" before it's all over.

Theeeeeeeeeen, it'll be time to pull the JD 4710 out and have some fun. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Frank, we're down just outside Ithaca. We had 18" of the white stuff on our hill out of this storm so far. Certainly got a chance to use the JD 4100, and it did what I asked it to do.

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

It's now 5pm and I've just finished plowing, shoveling out the woodpile, making a path to the chicken coop, raking the roofs of the house, cottage, shop and garage, and digging out the mailbox from the mountain of snow the town plow buried it with. Used 3/4 of a tank of diesel in the process! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Looks like we got 18" or so, though it's hard to tell since the wind blows it around a bit. The road and walkways were over two feet deep. And this is on top of a solid sheet of ice left over from last week's rain! Slick as can be!

Just think of all the FEL practice I got today. Just think of those poor sods in Texas who never get to experience Nor'easters! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: New Year\'s Snow Storm

Good one, Dave! I was wondering if you were paying attention. And as a matter of fact, I did find one thing about life in the desert to envy you for. As the proud and sometimes frustrated owner of two 57 Dodge pickups, I salivate at the thought of all those rust free parts trucks out your way! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
