"Probably just a tad smaller than your Jinma" almost 1500 lbs smaller :) but Soundguy is right front loaders are not the best diggers on new ground.

Koyker’s are still at 2.5K and sometimes less depending on the dealer. Ray's loader at coldwater would be fine for the work you’re doing though. I have sold both over the years and they both have strong and week points and both can be destroyed by a careless operator.

They don't sell to individuals. They will send you a list of nearby dealers however. Their website might give you a list.

Wow, ask and ye shall receive! Thanks for the good info. $3k (even $2500) is a bit steep for my hobby farm budget, but the $1500 price for the coldwater unit sounds appealing. I'll definitely check them out. As far as DIY installation, how tough is this? I'm moderately handy and have no concerns about attaching the FEL to the tractor, but my experience with hydraulics is limited. What sort of work is required to connect the hydraulic system? Is it a 'plug and play' situation? I've looked at the hydraulic lines on my tractor and it appears that there is a quick connect-type fitting in the lines. Is this where you tap into the system? Thanks for the info on dirt scoops as well. Initially I was inclined to go this route due to the expense and storage space required for the FEL, but my wife is pushing for the FEL because she thinks I'm just being a cheapskate. The comments on this forum make the scoop seem like a viable option. Although the FEL looks cool and would be more fun...

Disregard my question about hydraulic hookup. Ronmar already addressed this in his prior post and I skipped right past it.

I also have nothing but great things to say about the FEL that Coldwater tractor makes, Easy to work on, simple and well made.

Both my brother and I have one and no problems, I dug a 5' deep hole in the ground to bury a dead animal last September, the ground was so hard that a pick axe hardly put a dent in it, but the Jinma and and Coldwater FEL got the job done in no time. This job really put the tractor and the FEL to the test !

FELS are made more for lifting & moving, not grading, they DO it well enough but a 300 buck box blade would be better at cleaning up & leving the acerage you mentioned. I'm with John S on that one. a good rock rake works well too for leveling if you get it tilled upp.
