Yep, the old man was an Air Force flyboy. My older brother droned around in C-141s Starlifters (it won't let me type out their other, more appropriate, name), and my other older brother currently flies Blackhawks for the Army. A lot of military aviation blood in the family.
I don't think Mike ever mowed down a lamp post, but he has come home with the top of a few pine trees in the undercarriage of his helicopter. I think you're right, your bud just needs to put the proper spin on his incident!
