Tractor
Kubota BX2670
Hey all,
I've decided to get a Kubota but have concerns due to ignorance about picking the right size. I've got 4 acres that are basically flat. I have a mower already so I'm looking for a tractor mostly for FEL work - Turning big compost piles, moving mulch, and very rarely handling crusher-run/gravel. I may someday want a bush hog and I've heard, but yet to confirm, my local extension office has a small no-till seed drill for rent.

One dealer says the BX2670 with R4 tires would be more than capable. He said a B series would be unnecessary (unless I just wanted to spend more $$$).

I'm planning on talking to another dealer today to compare prices and advice.

Thoughts?

Sounds like the dealer is pretty spot on in my opinion. I'm on a similar size plot of land, but plan on mowing and have a 1/4 mile gravel drive to maintain along with snow removal and and a significant hill causing ruts and water issues. The drive has me leaning towards the B series.

Without the brushhog consideration I would even say bx2370 would fit the bill for you. You may want the extra ponies for future proofing though.

Due to the BX's limited ground clearance I would vote for the "B"series.

We have a BX2200 and BX2660, if ground clearance is not an issue the BX will be fine, we use ours for FEL work, tiller, box scraper and rotary cutter. If ground clearance is an issue then I would go with a B Series.

It is one of those, either will work things.

Ground clearance for the BX series is 9". For most of the B-series, 12". For the B3300SU, 14".

If you are going into woods you need more than 9" of ground clearance.

For maintaining a high crown dirt or gravel road you need more than 9" ground clearance.

I've owned most sizes of BXs and Bs. If your land is flat the BXs will do all the Bs will do in a bit longer time due to size of bucket. Not much difference in money between B and BX so don't let the money be the determining factor especially over 60 months with the 0%, I did a post a few years ago of a BX and B that I owned at the time side by side comparison so if your interested you can look it up under my name. Also there is a great comparison done by BPfick that had a BX and traded it to a B2320.

My first tractor was a 2005 Kubota B7510HST with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket). Cost new: $12.6K plus tax. Used it on my 10 acre place (flat pastureland) for the jobs you mentioned. Used the FEL and 4-ft wide box blade to dig and excavate 4-ft wide trenches for about 100 ft of paver block walkways and for a 20x20 ft patio. Used a middle buster plow and a 4-ft wide Yanmar RS1200 rototiller to prepare the soil for grass seeding the front and back yards. The FEL came in handy for carrying landscape gravel and mulch around the yard areas. You can do a lot of work with a small tractor like that 7510.

Good luck.

I've got a 7510 gear drive. The 7510 and my L39 are my "go to" tractors around the farm. Hardly a day goes by that either, or both aren't taken out of the shop for some job. The loader is quite weak on the 7510, but is capable of moving a few scoops of gravel every once in awhile. For compost and mulch- the 7510 would do fine.

Don't be concerned about getting something too big. I had a B7500HST for 10 years and it did almost everything OK. There were a lot of times I wished for a few more horsepower to drag the 5' RFM uphill through grass that got ahead of me due to weather or work, or wanting a little more beef to lift something off of a trailer. At that time we had 2-1/4 acres and helped mow more nearby.

I say look at a L3200 just for comparison. I have a B3200 now, with only 2.5 acres, and want to move up my self. so look at it at least, before you jump.
