I am purchasing a tractor and need help deciding what size I need. I just purchased 21 acres and am in the process of building a house. I will be using the tractor for mowing, 1/2 the acres are field with some saplings which I would like to knock down, removing snow, from about 1/4 mile driveway and hauling/tilling dirt to build/maintain my MX track.

What size tractor should I go with. Keep in mind I want to spend less than $16K and want 4wd w/FEL, Disc, and rotary cutter. I have looked into most brands, and do not have a preference. I want to get the most "bang for my buck" so to speak. I have been shopping in the 25hp-35hp. My concern is that the PTO HP and FEL capacity be enough to do what I need.

Kioti DK 35, All the power you'll need. I also Moto & Motard a Honda CR450. If you find yourself interested in the Kioti, Let me know. I can get you a good deal.

Racer,

It sounds like you're on the right track with the preliminary work you've done narrowing your decision based on your needs. The only thing I'll add is that I've never, ever heard anyone say they wish they'd spent a couple thousand less and gotten something smaller with less horsepower. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whatever you buy, I can't emphasize enough how important a good, local dealer can be to your purchase if you're buying new. I think many here would tell you that it's more important than the brand you buy, at least among the 'Big Three' in compact tractors (Deere, Ford & Kubota, listed alphabetically /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

There are a lot of other brands out there to consider, too. I'm not going to pretend I know which of all the brands available from Allis-Chalmers to Zeitor (again, alphabetically /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) is best or would be best for you. I just want you to be aware how important a good, friendly, helpful and nearby dealer will be for you.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think you are probably expecting a little too much for the $ but the Kioti comes to mind real quick. I think thet are currently offering 0% financeing for 3 years. I really like theese machines and have heard nothing but good. I recently heard that based solely on USA import numbers Kioti is number 3. Thats impressive to even be in the top 5. I am not sure the Mahindra is available in 4x4 but you might look at their web site as well. Others that come to mind are the JD 790 and the Kubota L3000.

I am presently looking at a Kioti LK3054, Century 2535 and I am going to take a look at JD"s since a dealer that I sell to carries them. If Century had Kiotis financing, I would buy a 2535. They seem well spec'd for the $. I went and spoke to a dealer who sells, Kubota, Century and Kioti and he recommended the Century over the Kioti. As far as quality goes, he said they fall in this order. Kubota, Century, Kioti. He was really praising Kubota's but to me they seemed overpriced. He didn't seem to impressed with Kiotis.

You also might want to check out the grey market tractors. I have a Yanmar and love it, they make a lot of the John Deere compacts. Also the Iseki, these are all well make used tractors, plus the other greys too. You would be getting into the price range you probably could better afford, and they can do all the things you listed, you can add on to them as you go along, just like the big 3.

I have thought about "Grey" market tractors, but I am unaware of any dealers in the NY market. Another problem with going this way is the financing. Its hard to compete when you can go new for 0%. Since I am in the process of building a house, I do not want to lay out $16k at this moment. I am also leary of buying Used since I am so new to this.

From my brief research, I dont feel like its a stretch to get a 30hp tractor in this price range. Maybe it wont be one of the Big 3, but thats ok. Like I said I have no manufacture loyalties or bias.

 >If Century had Kiotis financing, I would buy a 2535.

Racer I went through a similar decision process relative to the cost of financing. I think the difference you are talking about (0% vs 4%) over the cost of the loan is a small amount to consider over the life of the tractor. I think it's about $800-$1000 depending on your purchase price. So if the Century is the tractor you want I wouldn't let the financing stand in the way.

I came to the same conclusion it looks like you are coming to. Century is a great bang for the buck.

Good luck deciding.

While 0% doesn't add anything to the purchase price, none other than Albert Einstien said that compound intrest was the most powerful force found in nature. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
