No I have not looked at the Mahindra at all. I will now though. I am also going to take a look at the JD 790 as well, but I am really impressed with the Branson/Century's. They seem to offer up the best HP/PTO HP compared to the other manufactures in the 30-35 hp range. I just wish there was a Branson dealer closer than 500 miles so I could try one out.

You might be a net search under long agribuisiness and go to the tractor portion to see if they have a dealer in your area. They are VERY impressive machines. Of all of theese I like the kioti as they simply have more dealers. The nearest Century/Branson/Eicher dealer is about 600 miles from me in Ohio. Mahindra is getting pretty agressive now with advertiseing and finance offers. One thing about products made in India, They are largely an educated free market society vs the origins of some of the others, like korea and china. Just food for thought.

There are two Koreas, and I doubt very much if North Korea has the capacity to market tractors in the United States. China, sure, but they aren't starving there.

Are you sure about that ? Dont forget they just swicthed gears in their entire society a few years ago. Farmers are starving and must have government papers to move to the city to get a job. most are working as illigals in the city factory for a few dollars a month building that stuff we love so mutch. It is a SAD fact that China is our only preffered trade nation.

With the peasants starving, it is hard to imagine the regime making tractors for anyone outside the country. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif That's a quick way to revolution, and I'll bet even Kim Jong Il knows it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

PARTS Availability

In your search for a tractor, keep in mind PARTS availability. While you may find better price/performance with off brands, you will need to purchase parts (now and in the future) to keep the beast running. I have a 2000 JD790 MFWD which suits my purposes well. I seem to make a visit to my local dealer regularly to purchase parts or order parts on-line. While I do all my own tractor service, you also may want to talk directly with some dealer service people to get their service/maintenance views.

I really liked the price of the JD790 also, but the non syncronized transmission of the JD and the shuttle shifter on the Century won over for me.

The bang for the buck in the Mahindra looked good also but the operators compartment was tight on me. The shifters where pressing to much into my legs. Take a looks at how the loader comes on and off also it requires a wrench rather than a lever like the Century C-50 loader (I thought the JD had a lever also). The Kioti I saw had a woods loader on it and I thought it required a wrench to remove also (not exactly sure though...) FWIW It's not really a big deal if you don't plan to swap the loader on and off to often.

No doubt parts and service are a huge factor in decideing. For some price is the key. Myself I went with the JD just because of the room in the cockpit for the oversize load it needs to accomadate /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think mfgrs. play a little bit of a shell game when it comes to the origin of any product. In real estate its location location location. In tractors its who cares about where it comes from. Every company uses parts from all over the world. I can take you into a factory in the US an show you a warehouse full of boxes from China.

If you looked at a Korean tractor 15 years ago the quality of the castings looked marginal. Today its a diffrent story. Just as the US mfgrs. went to Japan and China years ago for the cheap labor/ lower tech, Now Japan and the US go to China and Korea for high tech cheap labor.

My advice would be to try everything and find what you like best. The only pitfall I can see would be if you want to upgrade. Buying a less popular brand will reflect on its future resale value. Not because its any less of a tractor but because not every buyer is as educated as the people who frequent this site.....but I'll keep spreading the word...
