I don't back off the throttle when shifting and mine shifts really smooth. I don't know 1/10 of the stuff Norm knows about tractors though, so maybe I shouldn't be doing this? My owner's manual says to clutch when shifting from reverse back to neutral and otherwise I don't clutch (unless changing from 2wd to 4wd or to change gear range, etc). I would try changing your fluid and cleaning the screen first and see if that helps any.

Man I have to clutch mine, it shifts so hard otherwise. It will leave black marks on concrete if shifted without clutching.

I would probably put my 1510 somewhere between Roxynoodle's "really smooth" and Eddie's black marks on the concrete.

I have personally mowed with the same 2010 for six seasons now, and I put 50-60 hard hours on it each season....I am not gentle with it. Nary a problem so far.

LMTC, how would you compare the speed that your 2010 engages its powershift clutch with, say, how fast you would engage it if you were just using the foot clutch? And since you've driven lots of powershifts, would you say that some jerk more than others?

Also, I'm not familiar with what's inside the powershift mechanism, but is there something similar to a dry clutch plate where it can get something leaked onto it that makes it become more "grabby"?

Faster.
Yes.

Seals and o-rings and chambers filled with fluid, oh my:eek: At least so I'm told. I am the anti-mechanic, the Darth Vader of the shop......I can screw up an oil change just by being present, so I am not the first hand expert here, and my Shop Manager isn't up this late.

Fredster, hope you enjoy your tractor as much as I have mine.

For attaching rear mount implements, I purchased the quick mount hitch from HF that has been talked about. It's a very good buy. The heavy hooks are a litle rough but otherwise workmanship looks decent. It fit my tractor without any problems. When hooking up it's usually not required to see the lower mounts, just back up straight lining up the upper hook and when in place, raise the 3pt. The worst problem I have is due to having the tires mounted in the narrowest position, things are tight for getting into the pto.

The powershift has worked great for me. Not overly harsh or sloppy smooth. I've read somewhere the powershift design uses a planetary gear setup just like with auto AT's. The difference is no fluid coupling or automatic shifting. Closer to being like a Model T trans.

I'm on the finishing touches on the tiller to get to to match US Cat I standards. Want all my implements with same mounting positions so all will mount with ease and without need to dismount the tractor to get the hitch connected.
