Another stupid question. I can get about ten free gallons of ULSD. Is it safe to run that in these? It’s the only diesel I own.

I don't know where you can buy anything other than ULSD.

ULSD is 100% compatible.

Try to buy quality fuel. I suggest you find out where the local farmers get their fuel, and talk to them. I Never have issues with the local farm suppliers fuel.

If you buy fuel at a gas station, you don't know what you are buying.

If a gas station is your only option I suggest using a ULSD compliant fuel additive, especially in the winter.

I normally run off road diesel. Many of the local stations in my area have it and it’s a bit cheaper. I’ve been using it for about 200 hours. With no issues.

Ok here’s another. What fluid is used in the front drive unit and about how much?

Original specs called for the same hydraulic fluid in the front axle, Permatran III (or equivalent). That's what I've been using, with no problems, but others --who may work their GCs harder than I do mine-- prefer to use "regular" GP90 gear oil.

Just be careful to drain thoroughly (two drain plugs, one on each side), and fill completely. There's only one fill hole, so you have to ensure the oil travels across the axle to get to both sides -- involves a bit of waiting or tilting. Fully filled is when the oil, with tractor sitting level, comes to the mid-point of the beveled gear visible in the fill hole.

The original specs called for hydraulic transmission oil, -or- SAE 80 GL4.

Both the hydraulic transmission oil, and SAE80 GL4, are light weight gear oil.

I run synthetic 80w-90 EP gear oil, in the front differential.

EP, (extreme pressure), gear oil offers the highest level of protection for hypoid gears.

It is probably not be necessary, to use EP gear oil. Time has shown that the hydraulic transmission oil seems to work fine.

Off road diesel is ULSD, with red dye in it.
