Are the oil packages required to state whether they are a blend or a true synthetic??

I've read some discussion about Amsoil being a true synthetic. How would I know for sure??

The base oil used is what defines a ''true synthetic'' listed here Synthetic oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Amsoil is a POA oil .I believe redline / royal purple are ester oil.. Ester is also the synthetic choice for many of the newer A/C condensers

the 3 oils i have onthe shelf right now that are syn all state full syn. kendal, supertech, and valvoline.

I do see some that list 'blend'

the price point on the blend is so close.. why not go full syn...

My feelings exactly.

Any engine I have seen apart that ran Amsoil looked like new inside this goes back to the 70s. Most of these engines came apart for valve reasons; broken timing belts and such, never bottom end failures.

I think Amsoil is super stuff I just don't support their pyramid scheme.

There's just so many great choices in motor oil today how does one really know? I still see BMWs with 18K mile oil changes that are running well over 200,000 miles. Our DOT plow trucks never change the oil from what I am told by state supervisors, replace the filter and top off oil. State has agreements with OEM for this, sad but true.

Something about cradle to grave pollution by vehicles.

i'm generally fine with conventional oil, changed at correct interval per usage. however in the last 10ys or so now that I am using plenty of turbo diesels.. I don't mind the extra expense of an oil that has better anti coking properties..the extended drain means little to me.. and the better startup lube is a bonus i'll take.. though I think wear with a good conventional is within norms.

i have a few antiques i have switched to a cheap syn after doing engine work on them. I've not had any repeat stuck valves after I change an engine to syn.

gotta love this cruddy gas plus a moist fl environment. :)
