Champion Laboratories has developed the Next Generation Oil Filter

New Ecore spin-on oil filters feature an evolutionary design allowing engine oil filters to function better while being lighter and more easily recycled.

I prefer cannister-type oil filters over spin on. You can hide a lot of crummy materials and poor workmanship behind that sheet metal. But at the moment, I have exactly zero cannister-type filter vehicles. You can't always get what you want.

Considering that up until the 60's any oil filter at all was considered a luxury, spin-ons will probably do just fine. This looks like a good filter but I don't know that I'd call it revolutionary. It will probably do a great job but I doubt that it will markedly change the useful life of engines.

edit: I guess they called it evolutionary, not revolutionary.

Otherwise know as Walmart STxxx filters at around $2. Very good filters.

I would say this is the next generation oil filter

I'm sure Amsoil makes a good product, but, I don't know how to justify $15 +/- for a filter, when Motorcraft, AC, WIX, Purolator, etc..., have been providing adequate protection for years, at less than 1/3 the cost. Is it THAT much better?

It's a sense of knowing that you have given someone more of your money than you really needed to. A good quality oil filter can be purchased for around $5 and as long as the filter is changed when the oil needs to be changed, I don't feel you could do wrong. When the oil looks dirty and smells dirty, chances are that the filter has done just about all the filtering it can do.

Of course this is just my opinion, I don't have a PhD. in oil or filter technology. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I don't get your point. Let's see, I buy 1 amsoil filter at $ 15.00 for 25k miles , or I buy 4 of the off the shelf filters at $ 5.00 ea. O' but, you probably use dino oil anyway, so I guess you'er correct on the filter issue. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Just makes you feel good, doesn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's funny, got a good laugh. I see it the same way you do.

I just bought one of those EaO filters for my truck (and some of their tasty PAO base synthetic oil). All set to stretch out my next oil change to 2 or 3 times the recommended interval ...

I use their oil & filters also . For a while I thought I was the only the only dumb one here because, I also use those prouducts. I have never understood why someone would purchase a $20k + vehicle & would want to pay $15.00 for an oil filter when they can get one for $1.99 or pay a little more for good oil when the can use good ol dino for $1.50 /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
