Next Generation Oil Filter

( Glad to see that I'am not the only dumb one on the board. I have never understood why would purchase a $20k + vehicle & would want to pay $15.00 for an oil filter when they can find one for $1.99 or pay a little more for good oil when the can use good ol dino for $1.50 /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif )

If I needed the ULTIMATE in oil filters..Id use a FleetGuard....the same brand that protects a $20,000 ENGINE as compared to a $20K "vehicle"...

Of course this is just my opinion, I don't have a PhD. in oil or filter technology. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The term is "oilology".... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree that fleetguard, donaldson& baldwin make good filters. fleetguard is owned by cummings & as I understand it their main focus is on larger diesel engines & not on the auto industry. AMSOIL sold Donaldson filters b-4 they developed the EAO filter line. You can use the EAO filter on that $ 20 k engine

Like I said ,their main focus is on larger diesel engines. They make filters for autos. they make non synthetic media versions& synthetic media versions.. You can buy cheap or you can buy expensive. depends on the type media used, by pass valve etc.,etc; as to the cost of a good filter vs cheap filter.

Actually, I find their design interesting and was wondering how well it transfered and withstood heat. I have seen some filters that had thin casings and the heat would make the paint bubble. Do you remember the old cannister filters that would accept a roll of toilet tissue? Or, is that from a past generation. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Get your walker out grandpa..your WAAAYYY too old..lol

I can remeber back..when they tried to sell that bogus idea...saying the reason "store bought" filters were bad was because of "acids" used in the making of the paper elements!...Yeah! Right....LMAO

Cannister filter is a little b-4 my time. I have seen one though . The more you spend on a filter the better the filter , you get what you pay for. there are no free rides. If you pay $1.99 for an oil filter that's what you'll get . Will your vehicle self distruct because of this cheap filter? Probably not . Will it filter your oil as well as a $ 10.00 or $20.00 filter ? NO! I have heard talk of the foam type oil bath type air filter making a return.Seems that this foam filter in oil trapped more dirt than the modern day air filters.

I think I read somewhere that Amsoil actually has licenced the EaO "synthetic nanofiber" filter technology from Donaldson, which would imply that Donaldson invented it. In any event, they appear to be very, very good filters.

They have a line of EaA air filters based on similar technology as well. If I remember correctly they are supposed to be close to oiled foam for filtration efficiency (ie. much better than paper) and can be cleaned and re-used several times. Unfortunately they don't have one to fit my Toyota yet ... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've been toying with the idea of putting a bypass filtration system with pre-oiler on my tractor. 1 or 2 micron filtering combined with fully lubricated starts should make an engine last almost forever ....
