We had a severe ice storm in SE NH. We lost power on Friday Dec 11th and finally got it back on Thursday Dec18th. We have two woodstoves and a generator plus lots of supplies. We were ready. We became a "shelter" for freinds and neighbors. We had 6 additional people and two extra dogs staying with us for 5 days. We are just now getting the house back to normal.
I thought I'd show some pics. The whole area was beautiful.
Pic 1 is the house.
Pic 2 is a statue covered in ice
Pic 3 are some trees bent over the wood shed
Pic 4 is the backyard

The first pic is the weathervane on the cupola

Pic 2 is a birch that actually split and fell. ?usually they just bend over

Pic three is a branch that hit the roof. No damage. In fact we suffered no damage at all even though lots of branches and trees fell.

Pic one is the shed again

Pic two is a japanese maple next to the house

Pic 3 is my wife with a backpack blower. All weekend as the wind blew pieces of ice fell off the trees. Before they had a chance to freeze solid we blew them away. It worked quite well

Pic one is an oak that still had leaves.

Pic two is how we stayed up on things. A crank radio

Pic three is me at the wood cook stove. It kept us and all our guests well fed

We had no problems. We were well prepared. At least 10 trees are down out back. They can wait until spring to be cut up. They will supply firewood for the next few years.
I was glad we could help some folks out. And I hope the rest of the state gets power back soon.

Great pics Phil........ i love your cookstove ! Strangely, we never had so much as a hiccup in the power up here in Tilt'n. Though, 1500' in either direction had people without power. Sounds like you guys really made the best of it.... i know your town was hit really hard.

Phil,
Nice place. Times like these make people appreciate the standby generators.

It's nice to be prepared, isn't it? Glad it all went well for you.

Ice storms can be so beautiful, but their beauty belies their destructive power. I'm glad you made it through so well. Nice job!

This is kansas Ice storm in 2002. On second pic my boy was telling me at night that " dad, the tree in the back yard is getting close to my window and I was like.. Sure:rolleyes: don't worry about it kid:rolleyes:). It took me 3 hrs to safely untangle fallen tree from my deck  We lost electricity for days but managed just fine.

Wow phil-JC those pics are impressive, We've had ice storms here of course but can't remember any bad ones recently, this last one just missed us by about 30-40 miles.
It's really amazing how destructive it can be, there's just no stopping it. as beautiful as it is.
JB.
